The body of James H. Stickney 35 drowned after a boat capsized in Bass river on Saturday recovered Sunday. Stickney from Beverly left a widow. George M Bailey inmate at Burbank hospital Fitchburg jumped from second story and died. Rev Fr Dennis Scannell pastor of St Anne’s Worcester died Sunday. Born 1846 in Ireland he came to America 1865 and was ordained 1870.
Rennes August 21 third week of court martial opens with Dreyfus in better voice and calm demeanor. Fabre's testimony remains critical as Cochefort and Esterhazy ties surface. judge prompts replies while Dreyfus vows to answer once Du Paty DeClam appears. Elsewhere, Mrs Bellis assaults husband with red pepper at bootblacks on Washington Street. police arrest her and Bellis injuries are non life threatening.
Town Marshal Scott and his brother attempted to arrest Willis Thompson and others for riotous conduct at Farmers County Morehead Ky. Fire was exchanged, 15 shots fired, Elijah Fulton a bystander was mortally wounded and the assailants escaped. Police are in pursuit.
Capetown August 21 reports that the Transvaal has handed a reply to the British agent at Pretoria to forward to Sir Alfred Milner the British high commissioner for the South African government at Cape Colony is confirmed.
Joseph Bellis a bootblack from Ireland and his wife Katherine Wells, 21, faced a domestic dispute when she peppered his eyes at Spring Lane. She was arrested at City Hall Avenue police station and to be arraigned next morning. Bellis alleges infidelity and controlling temper led to discharge of earnings and separation.
In Poughkeepsie the supreme court reduced John D. and William Rockefeller’s current year assessments in North Tarrytown Westchester County and dismissed certiorari proceedings without cost. The agreement cuts the Lawes estate 54 acres from 37800 to 30000 and Horton place six acres from 4000 to 3000 while William Rockefeller’s Lee farm 50 acres drops from 10000 to 3700.
Mayor Crowley told Courier reporters he is satisfied with police efforts to enforce liquor laws. He said beer and ale are not on sale in the city and warned against martyring officers without sufficient evidence. He declined to discuss Fisher Pearson’s bid for the mayor’s chair and hinted at a forthcoming disclosure about asphaltina.

South Framingham August 20 Lowell Sixth regiment and Concord Company I troops arrive at Old Camp Dewey for a week of informal duty. The day includes guard mount drills, church service by Chaplain Perry, a Fitchburg band concert, a lively parade, and humorous tent-life pranks as troops from Lowell and Chelmsford join the Second regiment in a warm summer camp scene.
Capt. EF B Carr led guard details with Lieut Fairweather on duty last night. Brigade outpost commanded by Corp Hayes as Billie Phalanx remains lively in camp. Guard rotations continued with Corp William J Goodwin and four Company G men on duty. Visitors entered without passes. few were turned away for lacking passes. Frost Lyle and John Seifer visited Capt Carr while Mr Frost recalled Civil War sights. John Stackpole opened a barber shop for Company G. Eugene Young visited and traded war stories. Campaign uniforms to be worn from reveille to evening parade. Lieut Rose serves well as battalion adjutant. Cook Sawyer of Company C praised in his trade. Private Fisher left camp for a good excuse. Miss Pinder, Miss Hardy, Mrs William Jacques and Miss Jessie Ferris visited. James Williamson hosted Troop F. tents of James O Donnell and Harry Lyman popular. Sergt William T Andrews, veteran of Porto Rico, a well regarded guest, enjoys adventure. Sergt Hunton visited Lakeview near Framingham. Billie Prescott named chief of the police crew with Henry Driscoll as assistant. Haircuts trend as fun prompts. Lieut R E Bell likely to report with ambulance tomorrow. Capt Standish presided earlier. Sergts Farrell and Gibson directed operations. Standish forbids intoxicating liquor in camp tents.

Multiple individuals were fined for drunkenness with one case sent to the workhouse or state farm. Zotique Leclair paid a $50 fine for failing to appear earlier.
