Cyprian Chrisman 65 and son in law Thedale Chouinard 21 from Lowell Mass drowned when a brick barge sank near King’s brick yard Durham point. Chouinard’s wife survived by jumping into a skiff. Bodies sent to Newmarket for burial. both men split seasons between Durham brickyards and Lowell mills.
Mont Vernon New Hampshire August 20 golf week opens with a large turnout at the Mont Vernon links. The village team defeats hotel players 98 to 3 in morning play. Jack Harland of Vesper Country Club Lowell wins exhibition match 6 up against Royce and Bancroft, equalling a 43 for nine holes.
In Pittsburg on August 20 1800 workers at Continental and Pennsylvania tube plants of the National Tube company walked off the job completing a city wide strike. Company officials lament the growing force under Shaffer predicting the big strike will strain to secure money for benefits.
In Kingston Jamaica on August 20 the English and American locomotives were tested. The American locomotive pulled 126 tons over the toughest sections in seven minutes less than schedule time, while the English locomotive failed to haul the same load and did not meet the schedule after being lightened.
Mrs. Amos Barcomb of Loftus lane was fatally burned when a spark from her husband’s pipe caught in her clothing. She screamed Fire and ran from the tenement as neighbors rushed to help with blankets and water. She was taken to the hospital after grim injuries.
Concord New Hampshire hosted its third Old Home Day on August 20 with large attendance. Speakers included Winston Churchill, Hon. George A. Marden, and Jo Alvah K. Potter of Lockport New York, all natives of the state, delivering literary exercises at the fair grounds.
Senor C. Maria Vicuna, Chilean minister, died this morning in Buffalo after several weeks of illness. The death closes a lengthy illness that kept him from public duties and prompted tributes from Chilean officials and local authorities.

Bail set at 600 and cases continued for state charity agent presence.
A solemn high mass for Rev. Pierre M. Gagnon O M S former pastor of St. Jean Baptiste was held at 8 oclock yesterday at Immaculate Conception church. Rev. Eugene A Dorgan O M I led the service with Rev. Patrick J. McGrath O M I as deacon and Rev. Dennis A Sullivan O M S of Holy Angels Buffalo as subdeacon. The choir under Mr P P Haggerty directed the mass, with Mrs Haggerty at the organ.
A 14 page booklet of recipes used in vacation cooking schools was printed and given to every pupil at the last lesson. Extra copies remain available at the school supply room or the superintendent of schools office, with about a hundred to two hundred copies printed for distribution. Women may call to obtain a copy.
A. C. Wheelock bought the Josiah French homestead on Chelmsford street for investment through A. J. & H. W. J. Howe. The same firm sold the McGrady farm in Pelham to George Leblanc and a 25 acre Windham New Hampshire farm to Joseph Williston.

Mrs Mary F Skinner aged 59 died at Epping New Hampshire on August 18. Rose Graham aged 7 months 7 days died at 1124 Lawrence Street in the city on August 19. Katherine Hayes aged 70 died at the Old Ladies home of St Patrick's parish in the city on August 19.
The funeral of Ludlow D. Churchill was conducted by Rev. A E Wilson at 214 Third Street with Arlington quartette from Haverhill. Floral tributes included a wreath from the Grocers and Butchers Association and a broken lyre from Bridge Street storekeepers. Out of town attendees included Dr Frank S. Churchill and wife of New York and Mr and Mrs Albert Manning of Andover. Bearers were Charles Leach Frank J. Sherwood John M. Kingsbury and Thomas W. Thompson. Burial followed at Lowell cemetery under Undertaker J B Currier.
The Worcester area saw a string of funeral services including Walter Moody Lancaster at 2 p.m. from 48 Lever Street with Rev. John W. Suter. Alice Mary ONeill Edward Kelly Daniel Coakley Ellen OBrien Thomas Richards Katie Reid and others are buried in Catholic or St Patrick cemeteries. Undertaker O'Donnell and bearers from family and Emerald Associates attended. Interments followed at Rural and Catholic cemeteries with mass and committal prayers conducted by local clergy.
Martha H Lane 74 widow of John Lane formerly of Dracut and later of Dudley’s Court Lowell died at her Munsonville NH home. Survived by husband, daughter Mrs William Calvin, three sisters, brother Ezra Foster of Escondido CA, and other relatives. Mary H Tweed widow of Timothy G Tweed died at her Mansur Street home. Grim obituary fragment mentions a daughter Brenda and son Gordon Tweed in Arizona. later life details unclear.
