He is Gloret a native of Cotes Du Nord and has claimed I am the man who shot Labori His confession may be a boast or the act of a lunatic or drunkard seeking notoriety Police doubt the credibility of the statement. The Shamrock arrived at 8 15 this morning in tow of a tug with the Erin following. The Shamrock painted light green and the Erin white. The British naval reserve ensign fluttered at the yawl mast and the code SHMK flagged the name. Marines saluted as they passed Sandy Hook. Erin towed the yacht about 2000 miles due to adverse winds. The marine painter to the Queen, Chevalier Martinino, was aboard the Erin.
Chicago reports two river bridges closed to traffic seven condemned as dangerous and two labeled suspicious following a Calumet river bridge collapse during repairs. The incident involved a bridge breaking in half over its centre pier and plunging into the water.
Edmonton, Aug 18 The Saskatchewan river rose 40 feet in 24 hours and keeps climbing. Bridges are submerged by four feet and floating wood islands drift past the town. The historic Northwest steamer of the Hudson Bay Co. struck a bridge and went down wrecked.
Five thousand people gathered at Durham Maine to witness the dedication of the Shiloh temple headquarters of the Church of the Living God. The temple, begun last March, sits on a commanding site with the building’s circumference over a fifth of a mile. Delegates come from about half the states, assembling to mark the event.

The funeral of John J Malone, a young altar boy at St Patrick's, was held this morning at the church with Rev Fr Burke as celebrant. Miss Finn sang Handel and the Mass was followed by the burial at the Catholic cemetery conducted by Fr Burke. Daniel Livingston marked his 98th birthday at his home on Thursday. Born on a farm in Tewksbury, he joined the Livingston firm at age 17 and worked 57 years in various roles before retiring in 1885. He remains in good health for his age.
The Lowell fire department will issue aluminum helmets costing 4.50 each. The helmets resist penetration by failing glass or roof fixtures and are lighter than the old headgear. Protective company caps will be all red while other companies both permanent and call men will wear black caps except officers.

The August 17 funeral at the Parker home in Billerica honored Charles Henry Parker with Reverend Minot Osgood Simons presiding. A Lowell male quartet performed Lead Kindly Light and My Heavenly Home as family and townspeople paid tribute to a long-serving parish clerk and esteemed citizen. The service included readings, poems, and the I O O F mourners, ending with committal at Southbury grave.
At the Passacona Way Tribe Improved Order of Red Men meeting two chiefs were promoted and two applications for pale faces were noted. Members are urged to attend Saturday afternoon at the rooms for a parade to the Easton cemetery where the Red Men monument will be dedicated.
