Thousands of mourners fill Lowell church for the funeral of Rev Peter M Gagnon O M I who died suddenly Monday. Mass conducted by Very Rev Joseph Lefebvre with Bishop Brady and many clergymen present. The procession to Oblate cemetery at Tewksbury followed, with Mayor Dimon and numerous Lowell figures in attendance.
Pittsburg Aug 14 Both sides made material gains today in the great strike with strikers at McKeesport and workers at Carnegie plant. Manufacturer started up the Painter mill and Crescent mill at Cleveland. The total men affected rise to 65 000 amid the stoppages and resumed operations.
Thousands of men and boys at the National Tube Co. pipe mill in McKeesport walk out, tying up the plant. The Painter mills in Pittsburg began this morning, delivering a surprise move to the striking workers.

Newport Rhode Island August 14 The Constitution won the final race with a time of 11.46.20 as Columbia finished in 11.46.50 on a windward leeward course of 11 miles each way. A southeast breeze of seven knots and low fog limited sailing progress with Constitution slightly leading while Columbia gained. The wind remains light and sailing slow as crews push to finish.
London August 14 Lipton sailed for America today amid cheering crowds. He declared that they had done all that could be done and that if they failed it would be to the fault of being beaten by a generous, high minded sportsman who knew more about boats.
Jagersfontein in the Orange Colony reports that Commandant Pretorius, who was recently shot through the eyes, has died. His death follows his earlier wounding and confirms the end of his resistance in the region.
The police court heard the larceny case of David Maloney connected to a found pocketbook.
