Pittsburg August 8 United States Steel Corporation reopened Farm M Lindsay and McCutcheon plant with no disturbance and declares victory over strikers. Officials plan to resume other mills as well while warning that state troops may be needed when the general strike order takes effect. President Gompers and Shaffer met today amid Federation and Amalgamated ties as 1000 Federation men align with Amalgamated. The Clark plant nine inch mill at Lawrenceville reopened with 42 non union workers. only one mill idle.
New York reports Arch bishop Ireland may press a peace effort to end the steel strike. United States steel corporation has gained control of the Shelby Tube Works with 15 mills across Pennsylvania Indiana and Ohio all mills are non union.
The Ladies' Union Charitable Society of Lawrence issued a bid call for rebuilding the W A Russell house on Prospect street for hospital use, adding an operating ward, service building, heating and laundry facility. The project expands Lawrence General Hospital, bequeathed by the late Hon. William A Russell.
Fifty thousand spectators watched a veteran firemen parade in Lynn on August 8. The procession left West Lynn depot at 9 30 under Chief Marshal Hen nessy, with 49 towns participating in the muster and playout under the New England State League of Veteran Firemen. The city closed, decorations hung, and business paused as the event began on Lynn common at 11 o'clock, expected to run all day.
