Frank Coombs received eight months’ house of correction for stealing a bicycle from H. A. Stone of Ayer on the 6th. He was released from Concord reformatory on July 8 and later hired a Stone wheel to Groton. The bicycle and other stolen items were found in George Gonant’s barn at West Acton. After Cambridge time, he may be sent back to Concord to complete the term for good behavior.

After a two week absence the Maine horses resume racing at Mystic Park next week. A four days meeting begins on Tuesday with the usual top thoroughbreds expected to compete.

August 7 court session hears young offenders with several youths sentenced or sent to jail workhouse or reform facilities. John Hickey jailed for a year for drunkenness and domestic trouble. Other youths receive varying terms for vagrancy embezzlement or assault with intent to rape.
Joseph Berth, 22, of Providence, was run over at or near Ayer during the night. His left leg was mangled above the ankle, the right leg lacerated, and head bruises noted. He was brought to St. Johns Hospital at about 3 a.m. where doctors amputated a leg but he died at 8 a.m. from shock and hemorrhage despite surgery.
Mrs C E Emerson celebrated her first birthday at the shore of Johnson's Pond in South Groveland. Miss Alice Mosher, engaged to J William Munster, underwent appendicitis surgery at McKenty Hospital in Waltham. Despite timely rites performed by the Rev. Reed at midnight Tuesday, the bride died early Thursday at age 22 years 10 months, after a ceremony that linked destinies for a day.
