Anna H Crocker of Orange sues Frank A Aldrich of Athol to recover 1535 claimed as a loss her husband incurred in a card game. The suit asserts the defendant caused the loss and seeks judgment for the amount.
Denver reports State Auditor Parks ex officio insurance commissioner may move against multiple insurers over circulars warning that policies would be half value if free silver becomes law. He has gathered such notices and could deem the companies insolvent, revoking licenses, causing alarm among stakeholders.
Waterville Maine August 6 The Democratic state convention reconvened following Winslow’s withdrawal. The resolutions committee backed the Chicago platform and ticket, reversing a prior gold standard resolution. Leading nominees named were W D Frank of Portland and E F Hawes of Belfast with Frank nominated for Governor.
Boston bunched first inning hits and strong defense to beat the Washington Senators by one run. Sullivan pitched well for Boston while Mercer did for Washington but the visitors could not string hits together. The game was delayed half an hour by a heavy shower. Score Boston five runs ten hits one error Washington four runs six hits two errors.
National League action shows Brooklyn defeating Philadelphia 8 to 3, Baltimore beating New York 10 to 4, and Louisville leading Pittsburg 12 to unknown as Louisville maintains a strong run in the standings.
Pawtucket down New Bedford 18 to 4 in the opener, then lose 2 to 1 in the second game. Rain forced postponements of other scheduled contests.
In Portland Missouri the first Congressional district Republicans met to nominate Thomas B. Reed for what would be his tenth run. The city hall was packed with an immense attendance including hundreds of farmers who traveled despite bad roads. Emory C. Brewer called the convention to order at 10 o'clock.
Despatches from Southern Michigan and northern Wisconsin report extreme heat followed by powerful winds and thunder storms. Two deaths occurred in Racine, outdoor work was suspended. In Escanaba a 400 foot viaduct on the Chicago and Northwestern railroad was destroyed.
In Cleveland Ohio on August 6 a militiaman was shot during a nighttime assault by a crowd of union men at the hoisting works. The militia responded quickly as a small group fired revolvers, drawing return fire. A private named Perkins was wounded, though not believed fatally.
In Seattle on August 6 Senator Squire states he aligns with the silver cause and with bimetallist views expressed at Tacoma. He adds he will support William Jennings Bryan for President.
Southampton reports the North German line steamship Spree reached port at 8:15 am after one day overdue. She departed New York for Bremen on July 28, with the delay caused by overheated machinery bearings forcing slow running.
In Anderson Indiana on August 6 a thrashing machine shed exploded just as workers were finishing. At William Winant’s southern county farm two men died and two others were fatally injured in the blast.
Arlington mills will shut down for 544 weeks starting August 12, leaving about 2500 workers unemployed as the dyeing finishing and packing departments remain operating.
Frances Thurman known as Mile. Zoe, 34, attempted an 800 foot cable descent from a 70 foot tower at Curtis Bay Baltimore. The tower collapsed two thirds into the descent, she fell into the river and drowned. A native of Narrowburg New York, she pursued acrobatics since childhood.
The Knights of Columbus hold their annual outing at Mountain Rock this afternoon with a 2 o'clock monster clam bake. A large delegation of 76 Knights from Peabody and Salem arrived by special train, led by Grand Knights Richard Barry Edward W Kelliher John J Sullivan and P L M Gaudette.
Toronto defeats Springfield 5 to 1 in a decisive game at Toronto. Providence edges Buffalo 10 8 in Buffalo. Rochester hosts Scranton in a listed matchup with a 15 score for Rochester.
Six-Manager McClosky of the Louis-Villes was appointed manager of the Houston club. Players signed a paper declaring he was distasteful, after winning spell, while they could not understand why the released Kentucky man would disrupt the club.
Dr Abner L Merrill donates three 1094 per cent gold bonds of Pawtucket city maturing 1936 to Exeter public library in trust. The gift adds to a 2000 bequest by his wife and a 5000 bequest from his brother Dr Charles A Merrill. Income from Merrill funds must be used to buy standard books of permanent value.

Henry D. Holt of Amherst, a Massachusetts agricultural college student, was killed instantly at his camp on North Hadley pond early Wednesday when his shotgun discharged accidentally. He was preparing to row a friend across the pond at the time of the mishap.
A boat incident ends fatally when a muzzle discharged into the victim’s heart. The deceased is identified as the son of the late Rev. Kimball Holt of Amherst, who lived with his mother, now stricken by shock.
The Middlesex county board met in East Cambridge to hear residents on changing legislative districts. Lexington and Arlington seek a joint district, while a 25 person delegation from Woburn and Reading favors Reading joining Woburn. Dracut residents request Dracut and parts of Lowell in one district. He cites loyalty to the party and opposition to industrial financial control as the grounds for leaving.

The stolen vehicle is a Goddard top buggy with dark running gear and breast plate harness.
Wilford Corbeille reported a horse escape while fishing in Tewksbury yesterday. The animal eluded him and he walked back to the city, notifying police to watch for the horse which he believed would return. He resides at 12 Lilley Avenue.
The new Dracut rifle range is nearly finished after long demand by city military companies. A tour of inspection will be made tomorrow afternoon by the military committee and Aldermen Howe Crowley and councilmen Hunton Eastman and Reynolds to review remaining tasks.
