Dr Van Noorder reveals the girl was pregnant and may have been a malpractice victim, potentially poisoned, with Henry Manhs, a 22 year old farmer's son, named as her favored suitor and sought by authorities.
North Adams August 6 An unusual reunion linked Mrs. George E. Bissonnet of Houston with her father Alexis Dubuque and brother Arthur after 35 years apart. The three had believed each other lost since Canadian separations after their mother’s death. Arthur met a long‑lost brother a year earlier in Lynn. A jubilation planned for St. Jean Baptiste hall will follow their reunion.
In Philadelphia on August 6 a gasoline blast wrecked six buildings on Locust street, killing six people all colored and injuring 48. Annie Harris, four, is the only identified body. others include a child, two women and two men. Dozens more are missing as rescue work continues. The blast is blamed on George McClenny's grocery at 1014 Locust street, with total losses around 75000 dollars.
Boston August 6 19 year old Peter Paterna of Somerville owner of a Dorchester fruit store is jailed on charges he plotted arson to burn his building for 50. Cyrus P Smith an employee of the state fire marshal was enlisted and reported the crime to police after being introduced as the man to do the job. An insurance agent notified Assistant Fire Marshal Dunn who involved Smith in the plan before authorities intervened.
Berlin reports an imperial cabinet order announcing the Empress Frederick deceased and six weeks of national mourning starting today Public amusements will be suspended until after the funeral in observance of the royal occasion.
Mercer Maine August 6 a letter to relatives of Charles Washburne from Little Snake River Alaska reports he was killed in a fight while defending his claim. Washburne, a Newport Maine native, went to the Klondike three years ago.
The Cowes regatta foresees calm as King Edward's Germany departure time remains undecided and he will travel to London this afternoon. Vessels entered for today’s races will not start in respect to the Dowager Empress.
San Francisco August 6 negotiations for a labor peace have failed and indications show the strike will not end until after a bitter struggle.
Chicago August 6 Judge William Cecil Price former secretary of the treasury under Buchanan died at his son in law William Newberrys home aged 86. His prominence rose with Lincolns election and he played a notable role in Confederate affairs.
Hattie Cassell, 17, a notable resident of Greenwood Lake’s mountains near Paterson New Jersey, was found dying Sunday afternoon by fishermen near the lake edge in the Glens. She died before medical help could arrive, deepening a local mystery that echoes the Jennie Bosschieter case. Frank Van Noordet of Paterson is mentioned in connection with the incident.
Victor Ninberg aged 13 drowned at North pond while boating with companions. Oars slipped away, he leaned over to grab them, lost balance, and fell in. Unable to swim, he cried for help as bystanders on the Greendale race track nearby tried to rescue him but arrived too late. He lived with his parents on West Boylston Street.
