Edward Douvette a 23 year old Boston and Maine employee was injured in Thorndike street while coupling cars at the No 1 freight house early this morning The ends of his first two fingers were crushed and had to be removed at St Johns hospital where an ambulance took him Douvette resides at 68 Arch street.
James Corrigan aged 43 of 135 G street South Boston was electrocuted Thursday afternoon at 1 30 p m in the works of the Boston Electric Lighting company on Congress street. He received a severe shock, was taken to Emergency hospital by express wagon and died five minutes after arrival. His friends were notified by the police and later claimed the body.
Six mail orders for Akin Headache Powders were placed by Lowell residents at Carter & Sherburne's low price drug store in Merrimack. The notice lists pricing 3 for 10 cents and 10 for 20 cents as part of a Saturday promotion.
Cleveland Ohio Aug 4 riotous actions persist after a Jennings avenue car explosion attempt. Cars were stoned across the city though no injuries occurred. On Pearl street a shower of stones broke car windows and the conductor fired five shots toward the stones. Three shots went through another car window and two stones later struck the same car. No arrests. Troops have dwindled to under five hundred leaving fear the lawless element may resume outrages.
An American hunter Arnold back from the Mexican uprising reports Yaquis trapped several hundred Mexican soldiers in a mountain defile and used rocks as siege weapons in an old time guerrilla engagement, causing many deaths.
The Yaquis rise in arms along the river towns joining companions in woods and mountains. Travelers are attacked and killed as troops pursue the band that captured a whole family in the region near the City of Mexico on August 4.
Abner McKinley reached the Hotel Champlain for a short stay at Plattsburg New York on August 4. Magazine editors are among visitors while Vice President Hobart is expected tomorrow. Attorney General Griggs has rented a cottage for August and Secretaries Gage and Root are due soon.
San Francisco August 4 Lieut Col Barnet of the Tenth Pennsylvania volunteers has declined a proposal to elect him colonel He says the tenth has known but one colonel in 20 years and he wants to see it mustered out as Hawkins regiment.
Indications point to possible showers tonight followed by warmer, generally fair weather Saturday. Variable winds expected.
A French tuberculosis treatment described by Dr Mendel via United States Commercial Agent Atwell at Roubaix uses daily bronchial injections of a solution of eucalyptus thyme and cinnamon in olive oil. In 16 cases the cough, sputum, sleep, appetite and strength improved after one or two weeks.
Plattsburg New York August 3 Mrs McKinley enjoyed two carriage rides with the President in charge of a pair of Burlington Vt bags sent by Colonel Cannon. A 70 year old farmer Dr A D Richardson West Chazy walked 15 miles to shake hands with the President and was warmly greeted. Also calling were Governor E C Smith of St Albans Adjt Gen N S Peck and Col G G Benedict of Burlington Vermont.
Concord New Hampshire August 3 John Crogan assistant superintendent of Concord Land and Water Power company was repairing wires on a street pole when he touched a live wire. After a struggle and a severe burning he freed himself and fell 25 feet to the ground unconscious for a time. Hospital exam shows severe skull and internal injuries but recovery possible.
A 25 member Lowell delegation toured Gloucester and enjoyed a day of entertainment, including a deep sea fishing trip, clam bake, and banquet. They were welcomed by Gloucester officials and hosted aboard a chartered steamer amid fog and steady dog fish catches.
The State convention of the Stationary Engineers association opened in Prescott hall at 11 o'clock this forenoon and will continue this afternoon and tomorrow with a banquet this evening. The hall is decorated by Paul R. Burtt and the exhibits by firms statewide are interesting with about 60 exhibits under John R. Perkins M E. A Lowell boy. A State association exhibition features Middlesex Machine Co of Lowell and Crosby Steam Gauge Co of Boston. The displays include a steam whistle heard 14 miles away, moisture meters for steam, and the Crosby spring seat valve. Mayor Jeremiah Crowley welcomes delegates and visitors, recalling his early apprenticeship in engineering.
In a police court session four inebriates were fined for drunkenness. Tully received probation after plea of guilty and Davis jailed for intoxication. The Greeks charged in Officer Walsh's Market Street assault faced arraignment with several defendants and witnesses. Prempas was held untried, while Walsh testified amid a long morning of proceedings.
The overseers of the poor met at city hall last evening with five members present to approve bills. A conference involving the water board, the board of health and the State board of health is planned in the public hearing room at 2 30 today. The accounts committees will convene for the monthly session this evening to approve bills.
