From Nogales Arizona on August 3 two gatlings and a detachment from Mexico City moved south toward the Yauquis war. Troops march across the mountains to join the field force and Mayor Overton has wired Governor Murphy asking for cavalry troops from the war department.
Wilkesbarre Pa Aug 3 Employed at five large collieries in anthracite districts have gone on strike. Main grievance is excessive dockage and an estimated 2500 miners idle. Some demand wage increases and several others threaten to shut down.
In Letcher county Kentucky tensions rise between the Wright and Holbrook factions and the Reynolds and Bentley factions. Both sides are heavily armed and occupy nearby hills, with an outbreak anticipated at any moment.
Hanson completed a thousand mile ride in 92 hours and 44 minutes at Minneapolis on August 3, surpassing the previous record by 12 hours 85 minutes held by T A Wedge of England. Great crowds cheered the Shamrock yacht as she began her voyage from Pairlee in Glasgow with riverbank crowds and loud cheers.
Des Moines Aug 3. The Republican state convention nominated L. M. Shaw for Governor J. C. Milliman for Lieutenant Governor R. C. Barrett for superintendent E. A. Dawson for railroad commissioner and John S. Sherwin for supreme court judge. Incumbents renominated by acclamation. The gathering in a packed new auditorium heard Congressman George W. Curtis and Governor Shaw praise McKinley era policy and Iowa delegation. Resolutions endorsed gold standard and Dingley tariff while denouncing free trade and free silver platform. The convention adjourned sine die.
Gen Alger returns to Michigan amid a massive Detroit homecoming with 20,000 hearing Gov. Pingree and Mayor Maybury praise and a bold parade of veterans, labor, letter carriers, and civic groups. Alger thanks residents, recalls war service and offers to rest the record with the people.

In police court Judge Hadley found Atwood W Chase guilty of conveying mortgaged property and imposed a $50 fine or three months in jail, with a $400 appeal bond. Ella Lockhart was tried for assault on Mrs. Louise Evans. after defense and prosecution testimony, the court acquitted Lockhart and discharged her.
In a police court before Judge Hadley James A. Duffy was released on probation. The court forfeited liquor seized from American Express Manchester Express Thomas Miles and Louis Daniels to the State. Charles W. Post contested seizure, court ordered return of liquor due to misaddressed consignments and clerical error. Edward T. Murphy facts clarified. liquor returned to Post.
The Sixth regiment vacancy created when Capt Greig joined the 26th opens a promotion path. Capt B. Carr of Company G is selected by Lowell soldiers as the candidate for the post. Carr is a capable officer and the second senior captain in the regiment, surpassed only by Capt Williams of Company L who has waived his claim.

Militia company from Company M assembled at Framingham at 7 15 am in high spirits with about 40 men. A detail from South Framingham captured several stay at homes including Police Officer Joseph V M Noye who resisted little but claimed officers cannot compel him to camp. John Scott, former first sergeant of M, plans to enlist in the 26th at Lawrence after returning from the Klondike and marriage, seeking consent to serve abroad.
Twenty five or more city government members and city hall officials left by early train for Gloucester this morning. The lands and buildings department will accept bids for the foundation work of the new high school annex. The State board of health will report Lowell city water analysis results tomorrow afternoon. Samples from various sites will be presented with exact water composition.
The body of Chester O'Brien, who drowned Tuesday afternoon in the Western canal, was recovered at five this morning in the Hamilton canal. Undertaker Rogers took charge of the body.

A blaze destroyed a shed in the rear of John Malones boarding house at the Dracut Navy Yard at 11 46 last night sending the village into excitement as residents and bystanders gathered. Massachusetts era report: William Powers, 34, of Roxbury, fell five stories from a roof of the French Carriage Company at Sudbury and Mulberry streets and died en route to station 1. Roderick Morrison, 34, of Gloucester, drowned after falling overboard while trying to board the Massasoit schooner Addie F. Knowlton near a wharf. A cantaloupe note closes the item.
