Referee Charles B. Barnes Jr. presided a court session this morning. Final meetings ended in the cases of S. K. Chase, James and James E. Greeley. Numerous claims admitted. many cases continued to May 16. First meetings held for Howard M. Sweetser, Arthur L. Braus, William H. Gordon, Delamar C. Tranter. John S. Shaw vs. Charles Shepard resumed in superior civil court and was on trial at noon.
John J. Connelly a driver for William E. Livingston and living at 278 Adams street sustained severe cuts to the right shoulder blade and injuries to the right arm after his coal team was frightened by an engine on a railroad track in Ayer City. He was thrown and run over, then taken to St Johns hospital. A meeting of the Primary Teachers union is set for Friday at 4 15 in the vestry of the Paige Street Free Baptist church with all teachers and Sunday school workers invited.
A bloody high binder war broke out in Fresno Chinatown this morning between Bing Qung Tongs and Suey On Tongs. Three Mongolians were stabbed at the morgue, two more mortally wounded, and nine arrests followed as policemen were lured away. A series of rapid gunfire occurred in narrow alleys amid fears of further trouble.
Harrisburg April 20 The General Assembly adjourned after three and a half months without electing a successor to Senator Quay. If Gov Stone does not call an extra session, Pennsylvania will have one senator for the next two years. The session also failed to pass measures to wipe out a 3.5 million dollar treasury deficiency and cover the two year ordinary expenses.
An unknown about 70 years old was found dying in his St Charles hotel room. Gas was on but no suicide signs. he gave the name James Brogan from Boston. No baggage or ID. A chambermaid smelled gas. room opened to reveal a fully dressed man, died before a doctor arrived. Believed accidental asphyxiation. Body at morgue awaiting identification.
Newton police arrested John S. Lovely of Watertown street Newton and Arthur J. Deacks of Crafts street Newtonville after a week long chase. They are charged with breaking and entering the J. H. Wentworth company barn on Crafts street Newtonville on the night of April 15 and stealing a valuable horse and wagon. The case was reported next morning.
Police nabbed Lovely and Deacks after a long pursuit spanning Newton Boston and Lowell. A third man remained at large until morning arrests followed a confession to Chief Tarbox. The recovered horse was returned to its owners and both captured men were photographed for the rogues gallery. Lovely had prior horse theft sentences.
Nine holiday drunks were arraigned before Judge Fisher in the police court this morning. Joseph Sloss was released on probation. several others were fined or continued. Notable cases include Patrick Callahan, who was sent to the state farm after pleading guilty, and George Ausall and Herman Peck, each held for assault and battery.

Mrs. Julian Talbot’s opera The American Girl may return to Haverhill as J. C. Burke returns from travel. Chris Holmes reports a successful New York trip. A party including EK W. Young and others departs on the steamer Howard for Norfolk and Virginia Beach, planning a weeklong visit to Old Point Comfort and Washington.
In Portland April 19 Rev Smith Baker D D joined Alvin Smith Baker of Lowell to Ida Melvina Wright of Lowell. In Peabody William S Fraser and Emma Jewett McLaughlin were married at 72 Jenness Street by Rev D A McPhie in front of friends and will reside in Peabody.
Obituaries list Margaret McMellin aged 57 of 225 Pleasant Street in Dracut died April 19 at her home. Francis Callahan aged 24 of 17 L Street in the city died April 18 at home. Michael Curran aged 42 of 17 Swift Street in the city died April 19 at home.
