Teachers in the Lovington Municipal School System plan a meeting Thursday night to discuss tenure amid fears the tenure law may be struck down if the Hobbs mandamus case is ruled unconstitutional by the New Mexico Supreme Court. The Hobbs School Board has appealed after Mrs. J. P. McCormick won in Lovington District Court. The McCormick case, Eloise Valley case, and related actions provoke statewide teacher concern.

Still Born Son Of Lovington Couple Buried In Hobbs
The still born son of Mr and Mrs Adorthy Rockmore of Lovington was buried in the Colored Cemetery in Hobbs on September 21 with Reverend Atkinson officiating. Services were held at 4 30 p m Tuesday. Green Chapel was in charge. The father is employed on the Ed Taylor Farm in Lovington. Survivors include four brothers and sisters.

Cub Scouts Begin Year With 55 Attendees In Lovington
Cub Pack No 9 held its first post school year meeting at the Lovington Community and Youth Center with 55 boys and many parents present. John Collie and Fayze Fantley led registration and orientation while several new Den Mothers volunteered including Mrs Ralph Raser and Mrs J W Findley. Infant Buried at Lea General Hospital died shortly after birth on September 20 1953 in Hobbs New Mexico. Parents Harold and wife Moore of Tatum attended burial at Prairie Haven with Wallace of Hobbs Church of Christ officiating Green Chapel handled arrangements. Moore works as heavy equipment operator with Cecil Nickel Construction Co in Tatum living there since October 1952. Survivors include parents two sisters Jacquline Lavern age 3 Veda Catherine age 1 and grandparents R A Moore of Cutler California and Robi F Yates of Coleman Oklahoma.

The New Mexico state lease sale held in Santa Fe on September 15 raised $751 847 with 32 sealed bids in Lea Eddy and Chaves counties.
