Horses cause injuries in Napoleon truck collision

In Carlsbad, 51 Lovington and other Southern Union employees received lapel pins and certificates amid a safety meeting and picnic for about 200 workers from Eddy Chavez and Lea Counties. Polio Strikes Twice In Lovington
Lovington residents faced two polio cases Monday. Jimmy Erwin son of Mr and Mrs Dave Erwin from Household Supply was rushed to Plainview Sanitorium after polio symptoms appeared August 25 though fever stayed under 101. He may have a limp but was not in serious condition. Phyllis Glover is reported to be improving and will remain in Lovington for now.

Open Range Cowboys Gather for 20th Annual Barbecue Meeting
The Open Range Cowboy's Association holds its 20th annual meeting in Lovington New Mexico with oldtimers and families arriving around 10 AM. Henry S. Record ac Monument serves as president and Bob Beverly of Lovington as secretary. Awards from the Lovington Leader will honor the two oldest cowboys and their spouses the longest married couple the longest resident and the longest distance traveled. Barbecue with trim mings will be served at noon along with a musical program of old time singing violin and fiddling. Many attendees travel from California and other places to join the event and are asked to bring picnic baskets for the meal.
