Lovington School District 1 in Lea County covers about 1050 square miles from Mallamar to the Texas line and from Buckeye to Prairieview. The district employs 94, with 48 teachers and a five member municipal board. Valuation rose sharply since 1935, reaching 13.45 million in 1950 with oil activity and district expansion driving growth.
