Drunk Driver Investigated For Car Theft
Marion C. Rolan, 24, was jailed in Lea County on Tuesday night on drunk driving and auto theft investigation charges. He is accused of jumping the switch on a car owned by W A Nuttal of Hobbs that was parked at a Monument party and driven by Nuttal’s son. Arrested by Lovington officers Bill Pitts and Elmer Gilmore, he was to appear before Justice of the Peace John Green Wednesday morning.

Lovington Schools at 1500 Students Strain Old Buildings
Enrollment in Lovington reaches 1500 with all rooms in use. A new building is planned to ease overcrowding though 12 rooms remain in the three story old building. Barton Wins Reversal on Mineral Interest
Roy G. Barton, Hobbs oilman, secured a reversal of a district ruling when the State Supreme Court modified the decree in his favor. The case, U. S. Lawer of Crossroads v Barton, was heard in Lovington May 23 1949 with District Judge C Roy Anderson. The final decree dated Sept 22 held Sawyer owner in fee simple of surface NE Sec 23 TWP 9S RGE 36E with a 3/16 mineral interest. The supreme court order gives Barton 3/16 mineral interest and a $265 court cost refund. The mineral lies in the Crossroads oil pool.
