Lovington Wildkittens, coached by Hugh Clardy with assistant Taylor, beat Portales 14 13 last week behind Kendall Badgett two touchdowns and Derwood Stell conversions. They expect three returning players Wade McCaw and Tabor for Saturday’s clash with Clovis Wildkittens.

Barbecue Honors Crew At Eidson Well Celebration

Eidson and Millard hosted a barbecue last Saturday at 4 00 p m on the Eidson ranch to celebrate the new Eidson well. Attending were employees of Western Natural Gas Parker Drilling and Halliburton Cementing Co ranchers police and their families plus other guests. An orchestra provided music during the afternoon.

Reader Owens Receives Preaching License in Portales

Reader Owens preached his second sermon at the First Methodist Church in Lovington. He received his license to preach at the Clovis District Preachers meeting in Portales last Tuesday and Wednesday. He is the son of Mrs. Barbara Lee Owens of Lovington and former sheriff Horace Burl Owens of Hobbs. Reeder is married and has a baby daughter.

Pot Luck Supper Monday Night at Hobbs Elks Lodge

A pot luck supper is set for Monday night October 4 at the Elks Lodge in Hobbs. Mrs. Kinsley will lead the class for palsied children and show exercises to help parents. All families and interested Elks are invited to attend.

Final Rites Held In Oklahoma For Fire Victim

Llroyd Weldon Newman 33, oilfield worker, died from a flash fire on a 1951 Chevrolet truck near Lovington. He lived in Lovington six years, worked at Lovington Field Service over three, and left a widow two sons and a daughter. Funeral set for Rush Springs Oklahoma near Marlowe with Callaway Smith Funeral Home in charge.

Kilpatrick Bound Over On Perjury Charge

Pat Kilpatrick of Hobbs was bound over to district court on perjury charges after testimony at his chicken fights trial. He was found guilty of operating a game of chance, fined $500, and sentenced to 90 days in jail, with an appeal to the supreme court. Dave Williams represented Kilpatrick. Lea County Booth Wins Fifth At State Fair

Lea County finished fifth among 32 county booths at the New Mexico State Fair. Bernalillo won first, San Juan second, Eddy third, Socorro fourth, Lea fifth, San Miguel sixth. The county received 35 dollars. the booth cost was funded with a thousand dollars. The theme World of Opportunity featured agriculture and oil industry exhibits. County Agent Perkins noted the judging was tough with about 12 counties having nine booths.

VFW To Present Weekly Wrestling Matches in Hobbs

The VFW Post in Hobbs plans weekly wrestling events at the post headquarters on Lovington Hobbs Highway each Wednesday. Plans shifted from Monday to Wednesday to avoid conflicts with Lubbock and Albuquerque. Beard says showers and bleachers are installed. 1000 seats with ring side and general admission options. The match card will be announced next Monday for the following Wednesday.

The Democratic Central Committee will meet in Hobbs at 7 p m on Wednesday October 7 with Finis L Heidel Lovington attorney and vice chairman presiding. Reports indicate Judge Tom Finn has resigned due to health concerns and J W Eaves Hobbs trucker is expected to be elected chairman. Judge Tom Finn Reported Improving

Reports from El Paso say Hobbs Lea County Democratic chairman Judge Tom Finn is improving after injuries from an October auto crash in which his wife died. He has walked up to 25 steps and spent six weeks at Providence Hospital, with Hobbs policeman Michael Botesch confirming recovery progress.

Deepest Water Well Reported In Eddy County

A reported depth of 1,366 feet marks one of the deepest wells in Eddy County. Most Lea County wells run around 110 feet, with many near 80 feet. The well lies on the north part of the AL Ranch owned by National Livestock Co. of Carlsbad, about 95 miles northwest of Carlsbad in the Guadalupe mountains, and will be pumped by a windmill with a 20 spread.

Mrs. Anne Oglesby Bowen found guilty of building code violation in Lovington. Trial held before Town Magistrate John W. Green with defense by Dub Giraud and J W Neal. Judge Green assessed a $100 fine. Bowen appealed to the district court citing a permit issued over two years ago and ordinance changes since.
