Since 1931 the USGS and New Mexico State Engineer studied the South Plains Ogallala aquifer in southeastern New Mexico and western Texas. The basin, rich in groundwater with the potential to convert pasture to irrigated farm land, has seen 110000 acres placed under irrigation since January 1948.

United Press reports the Navajo tribe earned more than 1.5 million dollars from oil and gas lease sales across New Mexico Arizona and Utah. About 262000 acres were offered with roughly half sold including 70 000 acres in San Juan County New Mexico. Phillips Oil paid the top per acre price of 91.11 dollars in San Juan County with leases carrying 12.5 percent royalty and a 10 year primary term from approval.

Slim chance for NM getting Air Force Academy

Rain Floods Lovington Streets Again After Storm

Carlsbad Woman Buried In Tatum
Funeral services for Mrs. Margery Ann Ophelia Clifton were held in Carlsbad following a Wednesday death at a Carlsbad hospital. Rev. J. Melvin Ray conducted the service with burial in Tatum Cemetery. She was 71 and survived by two sons two daughters one brother one sister 13 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
