Lea County Hospital Board asked County Commissioners for a 1953 186293 budget with 40000 to build a nurses home near the hospital and the rest to reduce the deficit accrued since opening three years ago. About 75000 would be left for operating expenses. The board seeks funds to pay arrears and improve working capital amid large accounts receivable delays. The commission delayed action until other budgets are complete to determine available funds for hospital support.

Valley Mandamus To Be Heard Next Month
Eloise Valley seeks to force the Hobbs School Board to renew her contract and pay for the coming school year under a mandamus action. She was fired in May 1953 after a charge of insubordination and appeals this through the tenure law after the State Board found the Hobbs board failed to prove the charges. Valley, a Negress, taught at Booker T. Washington School in Hobbs and the case moved from Santa Fe District Court to mandamus proceedings.
