The annual spring health clinic for children entering school in September 1953 will be held May 19 at New Llano Elementary on South Second from 9 00 to 12 00 and 1 00 to 3 30. Parents may consult with nurses and physicians. bring immunization birth certificates and vaccination records.
The Independent Petroleum Association of America reports New Mexico produced more than a billion dollars worth of oil. The 1952 finds set a state record with reserves estimated to exceed 115,000,000 barrels, more than double 1951. The group notes only seven acres are non-productive and New Mexico wells outperform Texas and Oklahoma on average.

Pat Hanagan of Roswell announced the appointment of John H. Lawless Jr. as assistant district attorney for Eddy County in the Fifth Judicial District succeeding E K Neumann who resigned May 15 1953. Lawless a 31 year old World War II veteran from New Jersey was admitted to the New Mexico Bar in 1952 and has practiced in Carlsbad since 1952.
Twenty Lovington Lions joined the state convention in Las Cruces last weekend as more than 500 Lions from across the state gathered. Lea County District Court handed down two sentences Tuesday. C. B. Hamrick received a three to four year term after pleading guilty to writing a false and bogus check. The incident occurred at Cashway in Hobbs.

A car skidded along the railroad track south of Lovington Tuesday evening and struck a train. No one was injured. Train crew members were G. J. Ankel y, engineer. W. L. Brannon, fireman. B. D. Martin, conductor. K. A. Green, brakeman, all from Monahans, Texas. and J. C. Irwin, brakeman, of Big Spring, Texas. The car owner's name was not obtained.
