Justice of the Peace John W. Green said Hardy Houston Phillips and Otis Carlton of Rankin Texas pleaded not guilty on Saturday. Both faces assault and attempted murder counts after Robert Earl Brogdon of Odessa was found unconscious with burning clothing on Hobbs highway Friday evening. Bond set at 5000 dollars each. they were jailed. Prosecutors seek high bonds. no preliminary hearing date set. Brogdon recovering. no witnesses available.

Durwood McGinty Dies After One-Car Wreck Near Roswell
Durwood McGinty owner of an abstract company in Brownfield Texas and a Plains theater died after a one car accident ten miles west of Roswell. He was taken to St Marys hospital in Roswell and died a few hours later. He is survived by his wife and son.

Guilty Plea For Taking Lady's Purse
William Blanchard South known as Cotton Seed Willie pleaded guilty to taking a black bead purse from the Pala Mar Cafe rest room on a Saturday night. He and two others were arrested shortly after the theft as they headed toward San Angelo Texas. The purse owner Mrs. Hubert Whitfield reported the loss and $36 was found on South. He was bound over to the district court. The report also lists several drunkenness and gambling fines for other individuals.

Charges of assault against Boyce Vaughn of Livingston were dismissed after witnesses failed to appear for the preliminary hearing. On March 15 two senior students from New Mexico A&M College report to Miss Inez Dykstra for a six week training in home economics in Lovington. Silver Harvest Drawing Awards First Prize
