Gasoline Prices Hiked One Cent in New Mexico
Gasoline prices rose by one cent a gallon in New Mexico effective June 22. Regular gas now costs 31 cents in Hobbs and Lovington, and 32 cents for Ethyl. Hobbs station owners criticized the increase and noted customers may cross the state line to Seminole highway stations offering 21 cents for regular and 23 cents for Ethyl.

Riot on the Hill Ends With Multiple Fines
A near riot on the hill was quelled Friday night with several residents arrested. James Woodridge Jr. and Edgar Carter Sr. faced fines for disturbance and drunkenness, while Edgar Carter Jr. paid for disturbance. The Maryland Casualty Co. sues Flloyd E. Pierce for 4695.34 over the death of Douglas Kirkham an employee of Marsh Super Service in Lovington. Kirkham died Feb. 24 after an injury on Dec. 24 while crossing near Ranch House Cafe. The suit seeks 4179.60 medical costs 265.74 compensation and 250 funeral expenses under Workmans Compensation Law. Kirkham was the father of Mrs. Marsh wife of the station owner.

Weekend Crashes Injure Two
John Cheers of Lawsland Brothers was injured Friday when he rear‑ended a dump truck near Bell's grocery on Artesia Highway. He received a three inch gash and multiple injuries, then released from Lovington General Hospital. Saturday a Clovis man and two others were hurt in a two car crash six miles north of Lovington. all were treated and released.
