Redbirds Hand Undefeated Giants First Loss 10-7

In a Friday afternoon Little League doubleheader the Piggly Wiggly Cardinals toppled the previously undefeated Giants 10-7 as Joe Bourque pitched seven strong innings. The Cardinals exploded for five runs in the first inning aided by eight Giants errors and five walks, while John Bourque homered in the sixth. In the Dodgers 16-7 win over the Yankees, Tommy Thompson earned the win with Rex Winfred and Bobby Smith contributing, as Dodgers racked 15 hits and four doubles and a triple.

Lovington Pioneer Buried Here Following Long Illness

Lovington resident and longtime rancher K. Smith died at his home after a long illness at age 79. Rev. J. C. Quarles officiated the funeral with pallbearers Gaston Taylor Wendell Wilks Claudie Fort Bryant Pope Lawson Montieth and J. D. Doran. Surviving sons include Newt J. D. Smith Charlie Bennett Philip A B Smith and others with daughters Pauline Burns Corene Row Kathrine Hamilton.

Parker Drilling Wins Third Straight 7-6 in Extra Innings

Parker Drilling defeats Halliburton 7-6 in the first extra inning game of the season. Reynolds earns the win as Sartain suffers the loss after a 10-out performance. Halliburton staged a comeback with two homers by Goodwin and Carminati but Parker took the lead in the bottom of the eighth on two errors and an infield hit.

Denton Finds Wallet Returns Cash to Owner Near Cloudcroft

Travis Denton of Denton Hardware Store found a wallet with over 300 dollars on the road near Cloudcroft. He located the owner in Roswell by phone and the owner claimed the wallet in Lovington yesterday afternoon.

Bob Suggs was rushed to Brownfield Hospital late Sunday evening for an appendicitis operation. He underwent surgery and was reported in fine condition Monday morning by hospital officials.

D A Williams murder case records confusion over filing

In Hobbs New Mexico during the first degree murder trial of Jesse Williams the defense moved for dismissal alleging improper information filed by the state and insufficient proof. Judge Brand dismissed the charge citing misworded filing and no proven case. Williams remains jailed without bond awaiting new information.

Finn Sues for 454000 in Damages in Lovington District Court

Two suits filed in Lovington district court involve Tom Finn of Hobbs seeking 454000 in damages from Lena Betenbaugh administrator of Tommy Betenbaugh estate and John Frank Morgan. Finn, a Lea County Democratic chairman, was injured in a highway crash on October 24, 1952. his wife Eloise Finn died. The suits itemize damages including 2000 for a demolished Pontiac, 200000 general damages, 25000 hospital costs, 26000 lost income, 1500 funeral expense, and 100000 for loss of his wife. A second suit seeks 100000 for Wynette Hamilton. The docket also lists related civil actions and several divorce and custody petitions from other parties enduring various claims and settlements.

Mother of Local Merchant Dies

Joe Freeman's mother Mrs. Fannie E. Johnson 67 died at her McAlester Ohio home Thursday morning. Freeman left McAlester after visiting his ill mother and learned of her death in Lovington before returning. He owns Joe's Delicatessen and Market. Mrs. Johnson is survived by four sons C B Freeman Hobbs two sons of Memphis Texas and Joe Freeman plus two daughters one of Memphis Texas and one of McAlester.
