Lovington Library Board led by Mrs. Finis Heidel announces May usage figures 233 adults 373 juveniles 33 new borrowers total 606 up 50 from 1952. New rules require registration, limit borrowers to one book for new patrons and two thereafter, fines 2 cents daily, no deposits, and re registering to update cards.

Doyal Moved to Chavez County Jail on Charge
14 year old Lovington High School freshman Bobbie Doyal has been moved from Lea County jail to Chavez County Jail in Roswell for “better quarters.” State patrolman Otis Haley transported Doyal on Friday night and he will remain in custody there until trial.

31 Lea Tracts Up for State Lease Sale
The June 10 oil and gas lease sale will offer 31 sealed bid tracts and 11 oral auction tracts. Lea County leads with 26 tracts followed by 4 in Eddy 10 in Chaves and 2 in Roosevelt. Gasoline plant to begin construction near Lovington
Warren Petroleum Corp will start the Saunders natural gasoline plant 17 miles northwest of Lovington New Mexico on June 15 with completion set for February 1 1954. The plant will process gas from the Bagley Hightower Lazy J North Saunders and Saunders pools and supply 22 million cu ft daily with 30 000 gallons of natural gasoline 15 000 gallons of butanes and 31 000 gallons of propane.

Hobbson Refuses Army Induction Arrest Highlight
A young Hobbson and Jehovahs Witness refused induction into the Army and was arrested by the FBI in Hobbs early in the month. Thomas Lee Kincaid, 20 of Hobbs, left Lovington May 21 for induction at El Paso, Texas, and refused induction on May 22, then released on a $1,000 bond in June.

Dairy Barn Fire Destroys Henry Record’s Lea County Dairy
A Monday afternoon blaze destroyed a dairy barn owned by Henry Record in Hobbs Lea County. The loss, estimated at 10000 dollars, wiped out all dairy equipment from both old and new milking machines to refrigeration in a barn east of the Rodeo Grounds. Brownfield Rites Planned for Doyle B. Pierce
Doyle B. Pierce of Levington died in a June 5 car crash on State Highway 18 ten miles north of Hobbs. The 23 year old seismograph crew driller is survived by wife Ruby Day Pierce two daughters Diane and Debby 18 months and his parents and several siblings. Funeral services are pending in Brownfield with an inquest verdict listing automobile accident as the cause of death.
