Final Rites Held In Hobbs For Elba H. Miller
Funeral services for Elba H. Miller of Hobbs who died Sunday from head injuries in an automobile accident were held at noon with side rites and burial. Griffin Funeral Home directed. Miller had lived in Hobbs about three years and worked for the Lea County Highway Department, with department employees as pallbearers. Survivors include his wife Letha Miller, less than a year. one brother John Miller of Gurley Alabama. three sisters Mrs S M Roe of Waco Texas, Mrs Joe Chable of Eunice, and Mrs Walter Mattlage of Crawford Texas.

Preliminary hearing for B. C. Whittle is scheduled for 3 p.m. Wednesday pending subpeona of the state's star witness. Deputy James Robinson sought the witness Wednesday morning. if found, the hearing proceeds. Whittle faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon from the July 3 stabbing of Don Chaney on the courthouse lawn. Chaney was stabbed in the back. Whittle claims self defense. Police Arrest Two Minors In Tatum
Two escaped juvenile offenders, Wayne Dyer age 16 and Chester Alvin Simpson age 13, were arrested by Police Chief Doyle Henderson in Tatum. They were handed to Sheriff J. E. Evetts in Portales on charges of stealing a 1953 Dodge last Sunday after fleeing from Amarillo Potter County Juvenile Detention Home. They admitted stealing a 1954 Ford in Amarillo and abandoning the car in Portales before stealing the Dodge to reach Tatum where they planned a food raid.
