McAlester Blasts Parker With Four Homers To Top Lead

McAlester Fuel blasted Parker Drilling for nine runs, led by four homers including Wayne Camp’s two and Joe Battles’ three run shot. Parker briefly led in the fifth before McAlester regained control with key hits and errors. Richards Motor closes to within a half game of the league lead as McAlester remains third.

Dodgers Crush Giants 13-3 as Yankees Forfeit

Lovington Dodgers routed the Giants 13-3 ending Giants six game win streak. Rex Winford pitched six hit ball for his third win while Giants starters Jackson and Owens struggled. Bobby Collum led Dodgers with three singles and Garnet Vilars drove in three with two hits. Yankee forfeited game to Cardinals earlier in the day after late arrival.

July Building Permits Edge June's Low

Building permits lag this summer but July totals rise above June with 40 000 in residential permits to date. July issued include 4500 to Woodrow Coe 5000 to D A O Connor 20000 to E R Felfe Cicero Smith 5000 to Woodrow Coe and 500 for adding a room. June issued 23000 in the same period.

Graveside Rites Held for Infant Barron

Graveside services were conducted in Lovington Cemetery Friday for the infant son and Mrs. E. J. Barron. Larry Dale Barron was born and died July 10. Rev. C. G. Watt officiated.

Cotton Crop Forecast Shows 9 Percent Drop

Agriculture Department hints at a 13 million bale U S cotton crop for 1952 with 24,618,000 acres in cultivation on July 1. If yields match the average, the forecast would total about 13,047,000 bales, nine percent below 1951.

Southwestern School Administrators Conference Set at Texas Western

About 75 public school and college administrators from 30 Texas and New Mexico communities converge on Texas Western College in El Paso for the 14th annual Southwestern School Administrators conference. The event opens with a 7:30 a.m. breakfast and 9 a.m. general session in the Student Union ballroom with TWC President Dr. Wilson H. Elkins and El Paso superintendent Dr. Mortimer Brown.

Rains Notify Lovington Amid Checkerboard Weather

Rain fell across Lovington and nearby areas in a patchy pattern Sunday. Measurements varied from a light sprinkle to two inches in places with reports of uprooted trees and dry zones near Hobbs.

Lovington resident Henry Lambert was rushed to Lea County Hospital late Friday after a heart attack. Doctors report he is improving nicely.

New Minister Arrives for Nazarenes in Lovington

Rev. C. D. Faulkner from Hagadonlia Arkansas has accepted the pastorate of the Church of the Nazarene in Lovington. He, Mrs. Faulkner and their children Charlotte and Douglas Ray arrived yesterday. Faulkner attended Bethany-Peniel College and Southern State College and taught school two years while pastoring. His ministry began at age 16 and he emphasizes youth involvement alongside adults. He thanks the congregation and townspeople for the warm welcome.

Lovington building activity dropped sharply this summer says George Cowan building inspector, with plans to add eight motel units and possible new post office building discussed. He expects a revival in fall and a spurt when the new high school begins, as contractors aim to catch up on housing needs.

Fire Destroys Lovington Food Market in Overnight Blaze

A midnight fire at Grimes Food Market caused about 25000 dollars in damage to stock and roof. No injuries were reported as Lovington firefighters battled the blaze for about an hour with three trucks on scene. The cause was not disclosed.

Farmers urged to register for drouth feed relief

Lea County Republicans met to plan a county dinner and speakers for drought relief. They delayed a July 31 date due to a State Central Committee meeting on July 25 in Albuquerque. A drouth committee coordinates aid, with shipments increasing from six to 29 car loads and feed arriving from New Orleans to assist herds.
