Lea County Agent T C Perkins made his television debut on KSWS TV Roswell on the 15 minute program from 6 to 6 15 pm. Lovington police recovered a 1950 Mercury three hours after it was stolen from the courthouse square on Tuesday night. Calvin Beach of Lovington owned the vehicle which was found abandoned behind Ranchers Supply at 11:15 p m after he reported it missing at 8 p m.

Rancher Willard Ainsworth Drowns at Lake Amalgordo
Willard Ainsworth 28, a Yeso rancher and Dora High School graduate, drowned Tuesday while fishing at Lake Amalgordo near Fort Sumner. His body was recovered early Wednesday morning. Funeral services were held in Fort Sumner with burial at Portales. He served in World War II and is survived by his wife Joy and relatives in Milnesand.

Building permits issued in Lovington for January through June 1953 totaled 1,944,150 in value, up from 1,623,250 for the same period in 1952. Home construction led the surge with 1,470,750 in new residences among more than 3.1 million dollars in overall permits for the first half of 1953.

Scattered showers were reported over Lea county Tuesday and Wednesday with a heavy shower in Lovington around 5 30 p m Tuesday and a light shower about .01 inch Wednesday morning. State Corporation Commission to Hold Telephone Rate Hearings
The State Corporation Commission of New Mexico will hold public hearings on complaints about General Telephone Company of the Southwest and review its proposed rate increase effective July 21. Railway Says No Money For Signals

Lea county drouth relief feeds will be shipped next week from Lubbock to Tatum Lovington and Hobbs. The PMA will oversee a six carload initial shipment boosted to12 carloads with loans possible for those in need. Farmers must file 30 day needs with the Lovington PMA office and pay about half current market prices for cottonseed meal wheat corn and oats.
