William McGill Orr aged 79 died around midnight Thursday night in a Hobbs hospital. A longtime Hobbs resident of 18 years he was a retired carpenter and member of the Carpenters Union. He had out of state ICCF lodge membership and no known relatives. Funeral services were held Saturday at 10 am at Griffin Chapel with Pastor Ralph Davis officiating. One Killed Four Injured In Truck Car Collision
Pfc. Vernon Chandler twenty year old from Oklahoma stationed at Fort Bliss Tex was killed instantly when his car rear ended an oilfield truck on the Carlsbad highway west of Hobbs. Four other service men were injured and taken to Lea General hospital. Jessie E Kevil driver of the truck faced charges for driving with defective lights. The group was en route to Lubbock on passes from Fort Bliss and the crash occurred as the car collided with the truck after pulling over to aid stranded drivers. Burial planned in Wellston Oklahoma with funeral home arrangements in process.

A 16 year old Tatum youth named Bob bie Odell, five foot six, 118 pounds with blond hair, was reported missing from his home early Monday. Police say his parents fear he may be headed toward Montrose, Colorado.

Joe Reed former Lovington resident drowned at his Sulphur Oklahoma home late Sunday. He previously worked for Amerada Petroleum in Lovington. While grass trimming near a pond, he fell in and could not escape due to injuries from a prior Lovington truck accident. He leaves his wife, three sons John Earl and J H Reed, and brother J C Reed of Hobbs.

James King Fined $50 for Carrying Gun
