The president sent Congress his second budget message outlining a path to prosperity in 1950. He pledges the nation can reach 61 million jobs, record high production, with only modest wage and price changes, and aims for eventual budget balance.
Bill Hessler spoke to the Lovington Lions on dried eggs, recounting his prior work in egg drying and the rapid growth of the industry. He described plant operations, army adoption during wartime, and the current production and uses across the United States.
Acey Boon Cross a Lea county rancher and early settler died Wednesday after a three week illness and was buried Thursday at Prairie Haven cemetery after funeral services at Griffin chapel led by Rev. Earl Keating. Survivors include his widow three brothers and three sisters with pallbearers named.

Lea County farmers discuss sweet potato potential to replace part of diverted acreage. The Lovington Wildcats defeated Hobbs Eagles 43 to 38 on Lovington court Saturday night. Coach Ralph Tasker praised the effort as the first game his squad played full game without setting up. Hobbs foul trouble limited scoring for Nolen and others, while Hunt led Lovington with 22 points as they push toward the championship race with Tucumcari and Carlsbad looming.

Lovington City Council held a special meeting as local businessmen presented protests and recommendations on the revised occupation tax that took effect January 1. Mayor H W Gillett outlined that the changes modernize existing ordinances while keeping the same one dollar per thousand gross sales rate.
Lovington merchants protest the city occupation tax arguing it should reflect fairness between business types and protect school funding. They urge changes including tax rates a $1 per $1000 up to $25,000 gross and 75 cents per thousand above, plus use of a non notarized return form and single tax per business. Mayor Gillett says council will consider the recommendations.
