Spoon Held On Delinquency Charge In Jailed Plea

The Lea County Fair Board plans hog judging on Thursday and sheep judging on Friday September 17 with the general Sale on September 18 at 10 AM. A booth painting deadline is set for September 15 noon with space resold if unmet. A county motorcade is scheduled September 11 starting Lovington and stopping in Hobbs Eunice Jal and back with a hillbilly band.

A membership drive for the North Lea County Telephone Co operative runs from next week until the Lea County Fair closing in September. Gil Haugin of Lea County Electric Co operative will visit Tatum on Monday and Tuesday at Shelton Agency and Wednesday at the Tatum location to solicit memberships. Prentice Harris of Gladiola chairs the co op with a five dollar membership plus a forty five dollar stock share. the group currently operates the Tatum Telephone Exchange and plans a new building to house both co operatives.

The Saunders Field road area saw thieves break into Phillips Petroleum Co. trucks. A hydraulic jack and a case of oil were stolen on Wednesday, with extensive damage to the vehicles. Two earlier break ins occurred in the same area two weeks prior. Sheriff McAdoo notes plaster footprint casts found. police call it vandalism with several clues at the scene.

Hobbs police were informed a runaway youth was held by Artesia police after being picked up in town. His mother Mrs Gladys Jackson of Silver Dollar Motel in Hobbs was notified that Willard was in Artesia. He was later released and returned to Hobbs.
