Cotton Genetic Pioneer Stroman to Lead Peru Institute
Dr. G N Stroman, renowned New Mexico A&M agronomist who developed the 1517 cotton line, will become director of the Institute of Genetics in Lima effective June 1. He will oversee cotton breeding for Peru’s Sociedad Nacional Agraria and tests in Dona Ana County will study Chile varieties and fertilizer effects.

Tuesday Rites For Mrs Barton
Lillie May Barton 49 originally of Arkansas and long time Hobbs resident died Monday after a brief illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Emmanuel Baptist Church with Rev Grile Lee officiating and burial in Memory Gardens Cemetery. She is survived by her husband James H. Barton two daughters five sons seven grandchildren and seven siblings. Pallbearers named. Funeral conducted by Griffin Funeral Home Hobbs.

Eunice Infant Buried Monday
A day old infant son of Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Ruth of Eunice died early Monday in a Eunice hospital and was interred at 4:00 p.m. Monday in Eunice Cemetery. Survived by parents two brothers John Paul and Robert Steven Ruth and two grandparents Mrs. Lavern Chandler Evansville Indiana and P. G. Ruth of Galveston Texas. The Rev. Arthur Shaw of the Eunice Methodist Church officiated graveside rites. Funeral services were conducted by Griffin Funeral Home.

Farmers Urged to Prepare Grain Storage Capacity
The agriculture department launched a nationwide drive warning of possible grain storage shortages this year. About 20 000 pamphlets urged action as officials fear shortages could be worse due to high current supplies. Secretary Ezra Benson awarded 22.5 million dollars to add bins, lifting federal capacity to about 735 million bushels, with stock stored in ships and on rivers.

Oil firms show confidence in Lea County resources at a state lease sale. Superior Oil bid 50,000 for an 80 acre tract near Monu ment at 625 per acre, the top price in oral bidding. 53 tracts leased for about 871 thousand dollars in bonuses, land mainly southeastern New Mexico. Sealed bids saw a best price of 70,400 for a half section near Roswell, south of Caprock.
