Welfare Costs Near 18 Million This Year
Santa Fe April 15 A special budget of almost 900 000 in state funds will push welfare spending in New Mexico to more than 18 million dollars for this fiscal year. The Board of Finance hiked the 1953-54 Welfare Department budget from 17 425 000 to 18 323 000. Over 640 000 goes to Fort Stanton Hospital operations with other welfare activities to use the balance.
