In week two of a federal civil case, State Police Chief Joe Black described meetings with Alfonso Sanchez before the June 5 1967 Tierra Amarilla courthouse raid. He said warrants were issued June 1 for Alianza members and that no constitutional rights were violated. Six members of Reies Lopez Tijera Tijerina's Alianza tried to arrest U S Forest Service special agent James Evans at his Los Lunas home but Evans was away. Sedillo led the unarmed group as state police and sheriff officials kept watch. a warrant accusing Evans the group read was attached to the house. The episode followed a Sunday arrest of Tijerina for interfering with an arrest and his wife Patsy’s alleged property destruction.
Two Lovington youngsters Ross and Russ Gray, sons of Mr and Mrs Bill Gray, have won 13 trophies and 26 ribbons since May 17 in Midland County 4-H Horse Show Lovington 4-H Show Appaloosa Show and State 4-H Horse Show at Tucumcari. Russ rode Sandy and earned seven firsts and high point junior. Ross rode Little Toy and earned six firsts plus high point booster for ages eight and under.
Lovington sees colder tonight with partly cloudy skies and a mild Wednesday. afternoon thundershowers likely with a high near 80 and low around 55. New Mexico expects partly cloudy and windy conditions tonight and Wednesday, scattered showers northeast Wednesday, cooler air except southeast.

Thomas Jefferson James 79 longtime Tatum Lovington rancher died at Lovington Lea General Hospital after two months confinement. Survived by wife Libbie one son David Patton two sisters two brothers two grandchildren two great grandchildren. Henry C. Ingram, 63, father of Mrs. Alvis Hill of Lovington, died Monday at Ft. Bayard Hospital after about three months as patient. He had lived in Lovington about a year and a half. Survived by his mother, three other daughters, and a sister. Services pending in Portales. Arrangements by Wheeler Funeral Home in Portales.
Milchem Mud Company reports 60 sacks of Drispac drilling mud stolen from its warehouse at 110 N. Eddy. The theft occurred between 5:00 p.m. Sunday and 8:00 a.m. Monday. Value about $1334. Lt. J. E. Polson of Lovington Police investigates.
Sgt. Darryl McNair, a Lovington High School graduate and former resident, was wounded May 21 in Vietnam when a mortar shell struck his location. He underwent two surgeries for abdominal shrapnel removal, is listed in good condition, and will be transferred to a U.S. hospital on June 28. his wife Elaine Kidd McNair and his parents Mr. and Mrs. L W McNair have spoken with him by telephone from a Tokyo hospital.

Red Cross offers Junior and Senior lifesaving courses this summer at Lovington Country Club Pool. The Senior course targets youths 15 and older or those who have completed ninth grade. instruction is free but pool access for non members requires a fee. A certificate is awarded on completion with first meeting set for Wednesday June 11 at 4 00 p.m. Contact Gene Murphy at the country club pool.
Showers visited the Lovington area last night with only 0.02 inch recorded. Cooler breezes followed, easing the week long heat. Squall lines moved into north Lea County after midnight but no violent weather occurred locally. Some Lea County cotton plantings were wiped out by hail and rain, yet County Agent Jim Gilstrap says farmers remain relatively lucky this spring. Re planting is more prevalent on Texas South Plains where heavy rains and hail have been common.
George Hamlin of Tatum suffered burns while trying to extinguish a tank battery fire north of Tatum early today. He was rushed by tank ambulance to Lovington Sea General Hospital and reported in good condition. The article notes hometowners attended the funeral of Jimmie D. Jameson, 77, in Plainview.
