Campbell speaker rallies New Mexico Democrats for ticket

Campbell addressed local Democrats with gubernatorial hopeful Jack Campbell and a slate including Earl Hartley and M. E. Noble. He urged unity to back the full ticket and criticized highway policy while promising to press economic growth and state cooperation. Governor Mechem to Speak at Animas rally

Governor Edwin L. Mechem, seeking re election, will address a Republican rally at the Animas High School auditorium Saturday evening September 29. After his remarks a dance will follow in the gym with Forrest Delk's Orchestra. George Godfrey leads the arrangements and invites all citizens to attend regardless of party.

New Tax Reporting Rules End Monthly School and Compensating Tax

The 1962 New Mexico legislature ends monthly reporting for School and Compensating Taxes replacing it with quarterly reporting. Taxes due in any month over 100 dollars must be deposited by the 20th of the next month. quarterly totals due by the last day of the month following each calendar quarter. Credit rules apply to over deposits, with limitations. The first quarter under the new system ends September 30. for details contact Bureau of Revenue representative Mrs Ward Dale at 542-9234.

Game Patrol Gun Winner To Be Named Monday

Lordsburg High School hosts a Gun Safety show and wildlife display at the cafetorium Monday October 1 at 7 30 p m by the Lordsburg Game Patrol. John A Shaul of the state Fish and Game department oversees the event and the rifle and rod and reel awards will be announced during the program.

Court Rules Municipal Judge Holds Office Legally

The court found C. L. Brown duly elected qualified and acting City magistrate of Lordsburg and entitled to salary differences totaling $900. It held Municipal Judge and Justice of the Peace offices are not incompatible as state law allows a JP to assist when the judge is incapacitated. Ordinance 198, conflicting with state law, was challenged.

Mrs Hugh Pace Appointed Sheriff in Hidalgo County

At a special county commission meeting last Friday Mrs Pace was named to fill the unexpired term of her late husband as sheriff of Hidalgo County. Deputy Leroy McCarty has no opponent in the general election and will assume sheriff duties January 1, 1963.

Cochran Family Returns From Germany Visit

Mr. and Mrs. Ben Cochran returned Tuesday from a months visit with their son Captain John M. Cochran and family in Prum Germany. The Cochran family flew by jet to Luxembourg then to Germany. Mrs Cochran called the trip marvelous and interesting.
