Death of Sheriff Hugh Pace Mourned by Community

Washington Hugh Pace, Hidalgo County Sheriff, died at 59 after a sudden stroke. He is survived by wife Elna, a daughter and six sons, plus fourteen grandchildren and several siblings. Pace served as water master, deputy sheriff, and was elected sheriff in 1958. Funeral services were held in Virden with continued notice on page 4.

The Lordsburg Post Office begins business Monday September 24 led by Postmaster Don McGhee. The new facility offers south side parking plus street parking on Fourth and Shakespeare. Box count drops from 890 to 508 requiring patrons to inform correspondents of new numbers. formal dedication expected in November. building funded with private capital and leased to the Post Office Department.
