Mrs Kerr Injured In Second Street Collision

Mrs Cora Kerr was involved in a near morning crash on Second Street Avenue when her southbound car was struck by a truck making a left turn from the eastbound lane. She suffered scalp wounds, severe shock, and damage to her vehicle. the truck owned by Andy of Ft Worth and driven by Glenn of Weather Texas, was westbound and collided in the whirl of the Kerr auto. The report notes details continued on Page 6.

Community event honors old timers at Legion Hall

Crowds filled the Legion Hall for a September 19 evening program by the Old Timers Club. New members welcomed, a turkey dinner served by the Legion Auxiliary, Dr J Cloyd of New Mexico College gave a humorous talk, Rita Hills and Jon Hill performed dances and readings, and Thelma Ross led a community sing. Bishop Lynn Hatch gave the invocation. A memorial to those who passed was presented, followed by a moment of silent prayer. Nominated officers were announced by acclamation.

McAlister Family Mourns as Mother Dies in Lubbock

McAlister family learns of their mother's death after she was away at Lubbock. Mrs. W Nelson was ill. funeral arrangements set for Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Christian Church with the McDonald Home in charge.

Union Department Store Float Wins Parade First

The Hidalgo County Fair opening parade featured the Union Department Store float with five decorators and a theme song A Pretty Girl is Like a Melody. Judges were Bessie May Leo Reins and Leon Wagley. First place finish led by Cruz Madrid Carolina Alvarez Ernestine Short Emma Scofield Nancy Pat Godfrey.

Darry Deaton Nominated for New Mexico Deep Freeze Cadet

The New Mexico Civil Air Patrol announces two nominees from the state for Operation Deep Freeze III. Cadets must meet eight qualifications including age 17 to 19, male, high school graduate and unmarried, with a psychiatric and physical exam requirement. National CAP will select the two winners.

Elks Club sponsors 4 H livestock sale at fair

The Elks Club backed a record 4 H livestock sale at the fairgrounds with many buyers bidding actively. Tops included Johnny Browning grand champion fat steer bought by First National Bank Lordsburg at 43 cents per pound and numerous firms and individuals from Lordsburg Duncan and nearby areas supporting the event.

Railroader Dies in Lordsburg Fire

Gilbert E. Mayle El Paso railroader was fatally suffocated by smoke in a fire that broke out in the apartment he lived in while laying over in Lordsburg. The duplex at 204 S Shakespeare St suffered several thousand dollars in damage with most of it in the north apartment where the deceased and two other trainmen lived. Two children in the south apartment slept through the blaze uninjured as smoke damaged that area and personal belongings of the Paulos family visiting from Lordsburg. Fire was discovered by F.

Sheriff's Posse Rodeo Financial Report and Winners

The Hidalgo County Sheriff's Posse rodeo closed with receipts totaling 1747.50 and expenses of 1645.09 leaving a net 102.41. Sheriff E N Jackson notes the event aimed to enhance fair and civic effort, not profit, and extends thanks to participants and contractor Jack Adams for arena sprinkling. Winners are listed for six events with Gabby Hayes winning bareback riding.

Mavericks rally from a 13-13 halftime tie to beat the Deming Wildcats 20-13 in a homecoming game.
