Lordsburg Mavericks Roll Colts 38 to 0 in Friday Night Contest

Lordsburg dominated the Colt defense for most of the game and topped them 38 to 0. Leroy Wagner and Ken Wagner led Maverick rushes while Rudy Vasquez connected for a 30 yard run. Colts were held scoreless through the third quarter and threw an interception on offense. The Mavericks travel next to Deming to face the Wildcats.

Elks Club Junior Livestock Sale Tops at Lordsburg Fair

Premiums totaling six thousand one hundred dollars were paid for 21 champion animals at the 4 H and F F A sale held at the fair grounds in Lordsburg. Top buyers included Las Cruces Production Credit First National Bank of Lordsburg and Kennecott Copper Company of Hurley New Mexico. Grand Champion pig bid did not reach a sale price.

Annual Parish Fiesta at St. Joseph's Plaza North Park

The St. Joseph's Annual Parish Fiesta takes place Saturday and Sunday at Plaza del Norte Park. Activities begin Saturday at 3 PM with Mexican foods and games, a 9 PM dance with prize at 10, and the Queen crowned by Miss Petra Renteria. Contestants include Miss Liz Gomez and Miss Emily Medina. Barbecue Sunday at 1 PM, continued games, and a 7 PM program. Proceeds go to St. Joseph's Building Fund.

Robbers Receive Prison Sentences

James Griffin and Robert E. Espie pleaded guilty to robbery by force before District Judge Norman Hodges and were each sentenced to two to 10 years. They had prior robbery records and admitted participating in the Rankin’s Stop and Shop heist at 924 E Railroad Ave, which net $100. Local officers traced them to Duncan about 30 minutes after the robbery. money was recovered.

Hidalgo County commissioners award a contract to Steelcon Building Co of Albuquerque for a Cotton City fire station to house current equipment. Steelcon bid 5 357. Building Mart 5 696. Slippery Highways Trigger Four Accidents Near Lordsburg

Wet roads from recent rains caused four separate motor vehicle accidents east of Lordsburg since last Saturday. No serious injuries reported as small cars spun on slick pavement. Tuesday noon hail accompanied rain and wind that damaged TV antennas and roofs in town.
