Lordsburg High School marching band of eighty five members and twenty sponsors attended the State Fair Parade in Albuquerque on September 17 18 and 19. Del Norte High School won first with Rio Grande of Albuquerque third. The parade was four to five miles long.

The Liberal reports J C Johnny Rouse brother of Joe Rouse of Lordsburg was killed in a logging accident near Bridgeville California on September 7.

Trio Sentenced for Motel Robbery Affects Local Case

District Judge Norman Hodges sentenced Robert Earl Campman Lester Allen Garlick and Chester A Froton to 10 to 59 years in prison for the Bivens Motel robbery at about 12:30 a m on September 10 The men pleaded guilty to robbery with a deadly weapon or aiding and abetting while a 14 year old girl held by juvenile authorities.

Col Thomas R Taggert Dies In Colorado

Col Thomas R Taggert US AF 52 of Colorado Springs formerly Lordsburg resident died there last Friday after a heart attack. He practiced law in New Mexico before World War II and joined the National Guard in 1941 earning a commission at Ft Bliss. A veteran of the Bataan Death March, he is survived by widow Loree and four children Virginia Tom John and Cynthia, all of Colorado Springs. burial was at National Cemetery in Santa Fe Tuesday.

Miss Mortensen Wins Hidalgo Farm Bureau Talent Find

Miss Rosanne Mortensen daughter of Mr and Mrs Marcel Mortensen of Animas won first in the senior division talent find at Hidalgo County Farm Bureau meeting. Soloist will compete at state convention in Albuquerque in November. Junior entries included patriotic group with David Richardson first, others noted. John Davis of Animas elected county president with Albert Jones vice president and William Massey secretary treasurer. About 390 attended a turkey dinner after the meeting.

Mavericks Fall to Colts 19-6 in Night Clash

The Silver City Colts surged in the final minutes to defeat the Lordsburg Mavericks 19-6 here last Friday. A strong Maverick defense limited Colts ground game early, while two Robertson to Tipton TD passes and a late Garcia run produced the final score. The loss highlighted pass-defense gaps and depth concerns ahead of a rematch with Deming Wildcats.
