Lordsburg Chamber of Commerce awarded $100 cash prizes to Hidalgo County cotton pioneers Darrow and Jewel Wi for showcasing first bales. The Old Timer Association banquet at Hidalgo Hall drew about 160 attendees with songs and speeches by Sam Gass Payne and others. Officiants elected include Sam Gass as president and Walter Dunagan as vice president.

Junior Livestock Sale Brings Good Prices
The Junior Livestock Sale at the fairgrounds last Friday featured six steers four lambs and seven fat barrows. Elks Club sponsored the event and Ed Zumwalt donated his auctioneering to boost prices. Judy Thygerson’s champion steer sold for 44 1 2 cents per pound to Andrew Fallat for 9286 61 with donations raising total to 361 75.

Six planes landed at the municipal airport bringing eighteen men from the Tucson Chamber of Commerce to judge the Old Timer Parade in Lordsburg. Fred Emery May or J B O Dowd and Karl Barfield judged floats on originality theme The Future and beauty. Wilson School earned first prize of 25 dollars with a second prize not listed.

Band Parents Magazine Drive Opens Today
The Band Parents Magazine drive runs for two weeks to raise funds for a new school bus. Band students and the Band Parents Club will solicit subscriptions in their districts aiming for 1500 dollars in sales, with about 500 dollars profit to help retire bus debt. District captains Irene Williams, Mary Morris, Ena Mitchell, Belle Chavez, Virginia Dunkerson, and June Dunagan will answer questions and take orders.

Mavericks Triumph In Season Opener Over Clifton 18 13

The Fourth Hidalgo County Fair closed Saturday after a two day showing with high order exhibits across departments. Visitors were impressed by farm garden orchard products and displays of cattle sheep hogs poultry canned goods pies cakes candies flowers needlework and crafts. The 4 H clubs and school exhibits received praise and the Sheriff's Posse Rodeo drew strong crowds for the western event.
