The Lordsburg Woman's Club hosted its annual banquet with state and local officials among the guests of honor. Speakers praised the gathering as a festive kickoff to the new year while the club showcased elaborate menus decor and entertainment by notable members and guests from Douglas and beyond.

Old Timers Program Highlighted at Eastern New Mexico Fair

The third afternoon of the Eastern New Mexico State Fair in Roswell October 1 through 6 features the Old Timers program. On Friday special guests aged thirty years or more join a parade of old time vehicles and a noon barbecue. A western stunts show replaces the rodeo with horses and activities like Musical Chair, Needle and Thread race, and Pack race. Entries are arriving from the southwest as facilities expand to accommodate more livestock and produce entries.

Santa Fe visitors broadcast from California convention

Mr and Mrs John D Bingaman and Mr and Mrs Earle Kerr drove from Santa Fe to California where the State Motor Vehicle Administrators held their annual convention. Bingaman broadcasted over a National hook up advertising the sunshine state as Commissioner of Revenue. Al Roughton chief of the Ports of Entry also broadcasted for New Mexico.

Managers Visit Fort Worth Exposition Discussion

Go to Fort Worth managers Donald Johnson Mrs Johnson Allan Johnson and Mrs S L Johnson spent time in Texas. Mr Johnson attended a meeting of Community Public Service Company managers where new merchandise was displayed and a general company activities resume was discussed. Mrs S L Johnson visited Wichita Falls while Mrs Donald Johnson and her son went to Paris Texas.

Old Fashioned Party For Legion Auxiliary Held On Saturday

The Lions Club welcomed Frank M. King associate editor of the Western Livestock Journal and Faye Guthrie chief of the Bureau of Public Welfare. King reminisced about his cowboy days and a New Mexico silver mine sale while Guthrie promoted regional fairs and stock shows. Richard Lewis introduced by Lions secretary, with plans announced for a banquet to boost attendance at a Mavericks vs Las Cruces Bulldows football game.

Couple marks 41st wedding anniversary in Lordsburg

Mr and Mrs Harry Wallace recall their 31st anniversary in Silver City last Saturday. They moved to Lordsburg in 1911 and have lived there ever since. They raised five children, three daughters and two sons, all noted as fine citizens.

F. E. Club Meeting Celebrates Birthday and Needlework

The F. E. Club met at Mrs. Trevor McNutt’s home on September 14 for needlework and conversation. Mrs. McNutt arranged blue and white refreshments to honor Mrs. Alan Bowman’s birthday. Attendees included Mrs. R. T. Bonar, Mrs. J. H. Baxter, Mrs. R. B. Turton G Dwyre assistant state highway engineer announced the Lordsburg Silver City state highway right of way closing and oiling will start soon to avoid location changes caused by the Tyrone bill. The $100000 project is among the largest in the state highway program this year.

Battle Creek Soldier Otto Brimberry to Visit Family in South Route

Otto Brimberry of Battle Creek Michigan brother of Minister J J Brimberry and an 82nd Division veteran left his unit en route to the National American Legion Convention to meet family. He went from Camp Gordon Georgia in April 1914 serving in Marbarthe St Mihiel and Moose Ar gonne campaigns, spent time in hospital for machine gun wounds and gas. Brimberry is secretary of Battle Creek Drum and Bugle Corps which has won two national and 11 state championships.

Luna County Assessor Albert Field Dies After Surgery

Albert Field Assessor of Luna county and pioneer of the region died at Deming Hospital after an appendectomy. He was widely known here and for his wife Mrs Field. He was nominated without opposition for reelection and was highly esteemed across the area.
