Mississippi Legion Caravan Stops Overnight in Lordsburg

The Mississippi Legion Caravan halted in Lordsburg for overnight rest during a 6 450 mile journey from Jackson to Los Angeles. The group showcases five floats and a truck convoy depicting Peace, History, Agriculture, and Union themes as they promote state goodwill across 16 states.

Praise for Lordsburg Schools by University of New Mexico official

Dr J W Diefendorf of the University of New Mexico toured the state visiting high schools and praised Lordsburg for its progress. He noted the school system as commendable and endorsed Superintendent J Miller as among the top. Lordsburg has maintained accreditation and high ratings in colleges and universities.

Brister Wins in Matched Roping at Fair Grounds

Claude Sanders of the American Legion says sponsor Robert Brister staged the matched roping with minor loss covered by volunteers. J A Jones won the Drug Store cowboy roping first day and Eddie Davis second day, both from Red Rock CCC camp. Brister won both days in the matched event beating Young Wells by ten seconds on ten calves.

Copper Rooved Homes Mark Solar Radiation Observatory Near Lordsburg

Contractor Jack Heather reports the Solar Radiation Observatory on the third peak of the Big Burro Mountains north of Lordsburg is nearly finished awaiting instrument installation. Director Moore and A. G. Proiland will soon occupy copper rooved homes with full lab and electric plant, a telephone network, and an onsite water system as Dorris of San Antonio photographed the site with Secretary Holt during a luncheon hosted by Heather's observatory commission.

Southwestern New Mexico Livestock and Fair Association Formed

A banquet at Hotel Hidalgo inaugurates the Southwestern New Mexico Livestock and Fair Association with George Cureton as president and an 12 member board. Directors include Royall, Culberson, Sanders, Carley, Reid, Ewing, Davin, Parker, Payne, Thygerson, with county officials and Chamber of Commerce advisory members. Livestock Show Led by County Agent Black Sees Wide Praise

Martin Family Return From Texas Trip

Mr and Mrs Driscoll Martin and daughter Norma Jean of Rodeo have returned after four weeks with friends and relatives in Amarillo and Claude Texas. They attended the Tri State Fair in Amarillo and report New Mexico’s agricultural exhibit was prettier and won more blue ribbons than any other exhibit.

New McCabe Baby Born in Silver City Hospital

Mr and Mrs Tom McCabe announce the birth of a second daughter on September 24 at Swift Memorial Hospital Silver City. The newborn weighed seven pounds and is healthy. Mother and baby are doing nicely.

District Court in Lordsburg sets fall term start

At the bi weekly session in Lordsburg Judge Geo W Hay disposed of a light docket and scheduled the Hidalgo county fall term to convene in Lordsburg on Monday October. The criminal calendar opens with arraignments and minor civil matters, followed by civil matters and naturalization cases on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively.

Delightful Vacation by Prugle and Luck

Mr and Mrs Robert Prugle with Sergeant Major Albert I Luck of Los Angeles return from a delightful vacation at Alpine where Robert landed four trout over fourteen inches long. Aztec Visitors Recall Local Mining Past

Mr. and Mrs. RR D Lewis of Aztec New Mexico visited Lordsburg Wednesday with their daughter and son in law Mr and Mrs Charles Malcolm. Mr Lewis is father of Julian Lewis who was killed last spring at the Banner Mine. The Malcolms formerly lived in Lordsburg where Malcolm worked for the Banner Mining Company. They left Lordsburg to join a mining concern in Colorado.

Lordsburg Mavericks Rout Hatch Bears 29-0 in Hatch

The Lordsburg Mavericks defeated the Hatch Bears 29 to 0 at Hatch last night. In the first half Nick Morales scored two touchdowns and James Rogers added another. Morales returned a kickoff for a TD to start the second half, and Lordsburg also forced a safety.
