A reception and buffet supper for the entire faculty at the Methodist church included invocation by W C Mearns and welcome by E Holt. Allotment Appeals Heard Under Taylor Grazing Act

Hearings on grazing allotments in Hidalgo and Grant counties were held in Lordsburg over several days. Examiner Leech led sessions with staff from Salt Lake City and local Grazing officials, disposing of about 21 cases and outlining possible appeals to the Secretary of Interior.

Deming Rodeo Boosters Visited Lordsburg Officials

Secretary treasurer Cl ff Kealey led a Deming Rodeo Association delegation to Lordsburg on Tuesday. Accompanying him were three Moran sisters Jean and Polly, Georgia Ward, and Lee Bak, Clarence McCan, and Oscar Ell. They advertised the Deming Rodeo and rode Pinto ponies owned by Lee. The group will be well represented at the event.

Delegates to American Legion Convention Stop in Lordsburg

Delegates to the American Legion convention in San Francisco are arriving in large numbers and will overnight in Lordsburg. On September 27 five motorized floats representing Mississippi will lead the parade with Miss American Legion in a pilot car. The cross country motorcade travels Denver Salt Lake City and returns on the Broadway of America from San Diego.

Dr Edward M Parham Dies in Lordsburg

Dr Edward M Parham a longtime mine surgeon and vice president of Lordsburg Hospital Company died at his home in Lordsburg after a severe illness. Born November 9 1877 in Dallas County Arkansas he moved to Lordsburg where he served the Mogollon Mines and was a respected physician. The community mourns the loss of a trusted neighbor and friend with funeral services held at Heather Mortuary.

Lions Club opens season with new officers in Hidalgo lounge

The Lions Club held its first post summer meeting in Hidalgo lounge with P. M. Chase as president and Rev. Bryan Hall as secretary. Tail twister duties announced for Thomas R. Taggart and guests J. G. Koogler and John Bradford Jr. Lions discussed YMCA Area Convention on the 24th and 25th and the upcoming American Legion convention in Lordsburg next August. Also noted were livestock events and early football games featuring the Mavericks against the L club and Las Cruces Bulldogs versus Mavericks, with optimism for the team’s prospects.

Mavericks Tangle With L Club In Season Opener

The Lordsburg Mavericks meet the L Club in a football scrimmage at the high school stadium tonight at eight. Admission is 20 cents for adults and 10c for students. Coach Pierce says every man will have a chance to play as the squad copes with a new sod field and strong opposition.

The Lordsburg Parent-Teachers Association will hold its first meeting of the new school year in the high school auditorium Monday evening at eight. Mrs Joe Leahy Killed In California Bus Accident

Mrs. Joe Leahy aged 70 wife of a former Lordsburg townsman was killed when alighting from a bus in San Carlos California struck by a passing car. The Los Angeles Times reported the incident a day later. she was a long time appreciated resident of Lordsburg and much mourned by friends.

Musical Maestro Sumner Teaches Piano Violin Voice at Hidalgo

Professor James 8 Sumner directs the Olympic Circus program for the American Olympic Team funded by the finance committee. The program supported the U S team for the prior Games in Germany and drew praise from movie stars. He hosts several weekly showcases for guests at Hotel Hidalgo and seeks many pupils for piano violin and voice instruction.

Mrs Marie Holiday Moves to Lordsburg to Stay Near Son

County Livestock Show Parade And Roping Plans

County Black and Legionnaire Claude ders say the Livestock Show and miniature rodeo will be in Lordeburg for the last two days of next week. A parade will assemble 10 16 A M Saturday September 24 near Turpine Store and move at 10 90. Participants include goat and calf ropers, horses and cattle, high school band and Legion drum corps, with local merchants invited to enter cars or trucks. Donations fund barbecue and meat for the event come from multiple local businesses and ranchers. Proceeds support the annual fair and statewide appeal.

Pioneer Passes On Jack Stephens Former Pythian Temple Custodian

Cornelius Stephens known as Jack by friends, born January 1871 in Palopinte county Texas, died Friday in his home at the rear of the Nicholson residence. He served as custodian of the Pythian Temple for years and was active in the order. He married twice and left a son Dirwin who died in 1917. Funeral held at Heather Mortuary with Congregational singing and Knight pallbearers.

Tragic Loddsburg Clash Ends in Mesa’s Death

Antonio Mesa and Amelio Acosta fought on Railroad Avenue Sunday morning. Mesa reportedly threw a rock at Acosta and was struck in the head, dying at De Moss hospital that evening. Acosta was jailed and bound over to the District Court in $2500 bond after a justice hearing. Mesa’s funeral was held Monday.

Tragic Suicide Of Mrs Annie Eaton at Washburn Ranch

Mrs Annie Eaton widow of Frank L Eaton who was killed by lightning a year ago shot herself through the breast with a shotgun at Washburn ranch. Funeral held at Heather Mortuary with Rev Bryan Hall officiating. Pallbearers included Nathan Cavin Joseph L Pyles Alfred Yarborough John P Cavin Buster McCants Tony Windrow. Bulls misidentified by dealer and buyer clarifies breed

Not Holstein bulls were bought from George Cureton by Dr. BE. C. Demoss. They were Herefords, not Holsteins as stated last week. A Liberal representative fielded inquiries on Friday about the white faced bulls and breed differences.

Mrs. A. L. Green hosted a N. and T. Club group trip to the Silver City highway for an all day picnic. Shooting Accident On Rabbit Hunt Injures Man

Bud Weiser accidentally shot himself in the foot during a rabbit hunting outing with Jim and Bill Merritt. He was rushed to El Paso for treatment and is reported improving.
