Democrats meet at 7 30 p m Sept 19 in the Hidalgo County Courthouse to select delegates to state and national party conferences and urge local Democrats to attend.
Hidalgo County Commissioners hear land developer Jim McCutchan request paving for the 1.4 mile Glen Acres Road north of Lordsburg. McCutchan says the road was county accepted with subdivision approval, while Chair Jerry Veck insists formal dedication is required before paving.
First National Bank of Lordsburg captured the grand sweepstakes prize in the float division of last week's Old Timers Parade. Beta Sigma Phi and the Church of Christ won their respective divisions. The event started Friday with entries gathering near the old ball park and proceeding along a route that passed Rail road Avenue.
Democratic candidate Bruce King reaffirmed that right to work should be decided by voters as a constitutional amendment. He spoke in Hidalgo County during a southwestern campaign swing and warned the issue remains divisive with persistent legislative attention since 1959.
Hidalgo County considers purchasing Lordsburg Golf Club as Farmers Home Administration forecloses October 1 on the note. County Manager Allen Kerr said a letter from the club notes no protest to foreclosure and possible county financial support termination. Commissioners plan to contact FHA about options including a lease to keep the course open.
New Mexico State Patrolman Dan Harris testified in Silver City as the state opened its case in the Perrin murder trial. Harris said he found Patricia Andrews and her two daughters dead after neighbors reported the scene in Chaparral. The trial, moved from Dona Ana County, pits Perrin against the state with James Neal Kinslow already pleading guilty as a key witness.
