A combined Precinct and County Convention will be held Tuesday September 19 at 7 30 p m in the Court House to select delegates for the 1978 National Party Conference in Santa Fe on October 28 All Democrats are urged to attend this important gathering.
Hidalgo County commissioners met with Hospital Affiliates International Corp of Austin to discuss The Management Contract Concept. The firm, claiming the largest US hospital operator, proposed a three year plan, staffing Hidalgo Gowen with a full administrator and physicians, with county control remaining and local then nationwide recruitment. The panel will compare three other groups before deciding.
James M. Gomez a 21 year old resident of Lordsburg died after a car motorcycle crash on West Railroad Ave in Lordsburg. Passenger Lawrence Flores 26 also of Lordsburg injured as is driver R J Fagardo. Gomez died en route to Hillcrest Hospital Silver City after 9 p m Tuesday Sept 5. Flores treated for a broken leg at Hillcrest Hospital. Paramedics EMTs and police faced crowd control issues at the scene.
Hidalgo County districts report lower head counts with 1,108 total students, about 100 fewer than last year. Lordsburg, Animas, Silver City, Cobre, and Deming systems provide detailed by school totals and budget projections, with several noting below projected enrollments and some gains or steady figures in certain grades.
State Police reported no major accidents during the Labor Day period in the Lordsburg patrol area. In about 45 minutes on Saturday, 31 speeding citations were issued on I-10 with as many as 20 vehicles stopped, and total holiday citations reached 250 in the area.
Hidalgo County Fair opens in Lordsburg for a three day event with an old timers parade stock sale horse show and rodeo. activities include exhibit judging a fiddlers contest junior rodeo and a breakfast before the livestock sale. prizes total 50 dollars for sweepstakes and 50 25 15 for parade divisions with a bicycle prize. admission is one dollar for adults 50 cents for children under six free entry for one day with rodeo access. board officers are Twila Willis Jean Payne and Lance Williams.
