City Moves to Remove Derelict Autos and Junk Appliances
The City Council voted to strictly enforce the derelict autos and junk appliances ordinance and authorize removal at the city's expense until cleanup is complete. Weight Watchers Opens in Lordsburg
Weight Watchers, the international weight loss program, officially opened in Lordsburg on September 8. Meetings will be held every Friday at 7:30 p.m. at St. Joseph's Church Hall. Hazel White, area director for Weight Watchers in Northern New Mexico, gave the opening lecture. A 72-pound loser, Mrs. White has kept weight off for over five years.

Blakey Reelected to BLM Advisory Board in Las Cruces district
Charles D. Blakey of Lordsburg and Jay W. Cox of Winston New Mexico were reelected as Cattle Representatives on the Bureau of Land Management Las Cruces district advisory board. Blakey serves Lordsburg Precinct Cox Las Cruces Precinct. The advisory board comprises public domain users and meets several times a year to advise BLM on public land matters.

Mavericks Power Colonia Juarez 46 26 Rivalry on Border
The Lordsburg Mavericks defeated Colonia Juarez Lobos 46 to 26 in an international contest. Joe Guerrero led with 93 rushing yards on three rushing TDs, Gabe Guerrero added 65 yards, and Freddy Alvarado threw two TD passes to Felix Valdiviero for 75 and 79 yards. The win featured 235 rushing and receiving yards and a shortened 90 yard field with KNFT providing play by play. The Mavericks host Silver City next Friday for a home grudge match coached by Don Recer.

Buvens Reelected HADECO President at Annual Meeting
Gilbert Buvens was reelected president of the Hidalgo Area Development Corporation at the stockholders meeting held Monday evening at the Retirement Ranch. Dockum was reelected vice president and Rodney Newton was reelected secretary treasurer. New directors elect included Vangie Fuller and Victor Reay. The two year terms were discussed as well as a staff talk by Retirement Ranch administrator Charles Brightup who urged more residents. ten residents currently reside there.
