Elks Club to Host Junior Livestock Sale Weekend

Elks Club presents a junior livestock sale September 21 to 23 with 4 H participants. Ground judging for calves and fat steer and hog classes set price floors per pound, plus a small premium plan for highly finished animals.

Saturday SP carpenter pacio Silvas dies in railroad accident

Pacio Silvas, longtime SP employee since 1944, died Saturday at a railroad crossing when struck by a freight train. The coroner's inquest found no witness could confirm crossing intent. he leaves three sons, sixteen grandchildren, a great grandchild, and a brother. Funeral services were planned at Heather Chapel with Rev. Chestnut.

Hidalgo Old Timer Association Held First Meeting In Lordsburg

The Hidalgo Old Timer Association formed in Lordsburg on October 15, 1949, with a dinner and 71 attendees. Officers included Claude C. Fuller as president and O H Wamel as vice president, with a Board of Governors. The group staged parades and dances, held annual Old Timer Day events, and elected new officers each year through 1953 54, continuing community celebrations and entertainments at Legion Hall.

Old Timer Association Plans Fair and Rodeo Kickoff

The Old Timer Association readies a September 20 event with a Legion Hall dinner and a fair opening the same day. Prizes top $25 for floats, rodeos at 8 P M and 2 P M with a Gay Nineties theme, free street dances, band performances, and a horse Square Dance feature at the fairgrounds.

Three Queens to Reign Over Fiesta on Sept. 16

The Mexican Independence Day Fiesta announces its queens with Mexico represented by Margaret Vargas United States by Molly Orona and Spain by Moni Villanueva. The court includes princesses Ida Saucedo Yvone Martinez and Reyes Placenta with junior princesses Ida Rendon and Dorothy Ann Flores assisting at the crowning. The event raises funds for St Josephs Catholic Church and features masses food sale and a free outdoor fiesta with performances and speeches.

Parade Float Registration for Friday Line Up

Call Harber Heather to register your parade float. You will be assigned a number for your place in line. Parade begins 9:30 at the New High School, travels to Penn to Railroad past Hidalgo Hotel, turns, and returns to the High School to disband. Be in line by 8:30 to 9:00 Friday.

Lordsburg Schools Open Second Week With 1045 Enrolled

Lordsburg Municipal Schools report 1956 57 term with total enrollment 1045. Pre primary and first eight grades include 817 students of which 393 are boys and 414 girls. High school has 228 pupils with 112 boys and 116 girls.

Mavericks Beat Silver City For Second Year

Lordsburg high school rode a fast start to a 20 to 0 victory over Silver City Colts on their home field. Jim Williams opened with a kickoff return to midfield, Tony Rodriguez and John Ruiz sustained drives, and Junior Morales scored two more times as Lordsburg built a 13 point lead and added a third before halftime.
