Dr. Stanley J. Le ts calls on all superintendents to aid in vaccinating as many schoolchildren as possible against poliomyelitis. Despite efforts, many students remain unimmunized, and officials urge prompt action to protect returning pupils as immunization status is assessed this fall.
Hidalg County Democrats met last week and discussed H Buddy Wamel as a potential senator for the county. Sten was made a note of during the meeting.

Paymaster Gins first bale of cotton for 1954 in Hidalgo County weighed 500 pounds from 1 220 pounds of seed cotton. Farmer H A Riddle three miles south and west of Cotton City reported the bale picked around 9 a.m. September 4 from about two acres. The 671 pounds of seed were separated and the crop ready for picking. Michaels, manager of the Paymaster Gin at Cotton City, said two gins can process up to 300 bales per day. operation expected around October.

Early Wednesday at 12:45 am Miguel Fresquez crossed Railroad Avenue between parked cars in front of the Vendome Hotel and was struck by Eddie Braun’s car. Police say the accident was unavoidable for Broun who was within speed limits and stopped immediately. Fresquez sustained only minor bruises.
Lordsburg High School opens football with a 19 to 13 loss to the Orange and Purple in a rough game. Coach Ralph Craig cites inexperience and a 12-player turnover from last year, but praises improving spirit and potential for a strong showing against Silver City at 8 p.m. Friday with a tentative lineup featuring Arredondo Ruiz Williams Stiles Jackson Tibbs Camacho Payne Powell Diaz Morales and others.
Golfers invited to a flag tournament at the local course this Sunday September 9 with a 9:00 am start. Entry fee one dollar includes lunch. Ladies join for lunch and Scotch foursome play in the afternoon.

The Lordsburg Liberal bid farewell to Milton Massey who has worked there since spring. He will enter college in California this month. A dinner at Dale Mead's home honored him with a gift from the staff. Attending were Shorty Greer and several local residents and families.
