Four Montanans Held Over Lordsburg Station Robbery
Hidalgo County deputies and New Mexico State Police arrested four Montana residents after an armed robbery at West Side Conoco in Lordsburg. John Paul Swartz 18 and Robert Joseph Smoke 20, both of Montana, face armed robbery and false imprisonment charges along with two female juveniles. The group, who allegedly forced an attendant into the tube bay, fled with about 539 dollars. Local officers linked a vehicle to the crime and stopped it east of Lordsburg with no resistance. Additional arrests included two Texas men on fugitive warrants and continued efforts to recapture jail escapee James V Stevenson.

Pay For New Doctor Approved By Hidalgo County Board

A $4000 monthly salary and hourly wages for a nurse and a bookkeeper were set, with clinic hours 9 to 12 and 2 to 5 Monday through Friday and on call emergencies alongside County Paramedic Don McNutt. Also approved were a $200 centennial prize for Lordsburg committee members Memo Rodriguez and Diane Culberson, a feasibility study by Quinn and Company on industrial bonds for ranchers and farmers, and the tax rate setting order for county property assessment.

Border Patrol Seizes 120 Lbs Marijuana Near Silver City
U S Border Patrol officers from Lordsburg seized 120 pounds of marijuana during a routine traffic check on U S 180 West of Silver City. The weed valued about 35000 dollars was in a trunk with three bags from a car not registered to either driver. Two men Rueben V Valdez 43 and Jaime A Mendoza 25 were arrested on drug possession with intent to distribute and arraigned with bond set at 25000 dollars.
