Quarter Horse Show and Rodeo Results at Hidalgo County Fair

The third annual American Quarter Horse approved event at Hidalgo County Fairgrounds drew broader competition than last year with judges and handlers from Arizona New Mexico and Mexico. Winners included Buck A Lee as Grand Champion Stud and Tontonia as champion mare with several claimants in performance events. Injuries occurred during bull riding and horse work, with two contestants hurt and hospitalized after incidents at the fairgrounds.

Bank Donates TV Set to Hidalgo General Hospital

The First National Bank of bury board of directors voted to donate a television set to Hidalgo General Hospital. This is the third set donated toward a goal of six. The Liberal reports the effort and hopes other organizations will follow.

The fifteenth annual Old Timers Banquet at the Cafetorium on Thursday night September 3 featured Dr J Cloyd Miller speaking on The Art of Growing Old Gracefully. Old Timers Association officers were elected by acclamation and about 116 people attended.

Silver City Widow Kidnapped By Teenager At Knife Point

Josephine Boerstein, a 70 year old widow, was abducted from her Silver City home by Kenneth Hunter about 8 30 Wednesday morning in Mrs Borenstein s car. She escaped by jumping from the car at a Glenwood New Mexico service station and was hospitalized for cuts and shock. Hunter, about 16, disappeared near Silver City and authorities opened a state county search with tracking dogs. Hunter lives with parents behind the Borenstein home.

Rainbow Girls Public Installation Sunday

Miss Harriet Bishop daughter of Mr and Mrs Harold Bishop will be installed as Worthy Advisor of the Order of Rainbow for Girls at 2 30 p m Sunday September 13. The ceremony at the Masonic Hall will be public with a reception to follow.

Farm Bureau To Hear Sen Mechem at Hidalgo County meeting

U S Senator Edwin J L Mechem will be guest speaker at the Hidalgo County Farm and Livestock Bureau meeting Saturday September 12 in the Cafetorium. Mechem a member of the Senate aging committee discusses housing employment and retirement income issues and frauds. The 2 p m business session will be led by President Clyde Richins with officer elections and resolutions discussion. Mechem speaks at 3 30 p m followed by barbecue and door prizes then a talent final with entries from Animas Verd en and Lordsburg and the senior winner advances to state convention in Carlsbad.

Mexican Consulate to Attend Lordsburg Fiesta

Mexican Consulate official Mr. Guido from Douglas will attend the September 15 Fiesta at Plaza Del Norte with 25 to 30 Mexican visitors and a Mariachi group. The Junta Patriotica Hidalgo invites Lordsburg residents to join. food begins at 4:30 p.m., entertainment 7 to 9 p.m., El Grito at 9 p.m., and reservations are available through local contacts.
