Reed Jr To Receive Award On TV Program

Reed Jr a 17 year old hunter from Lordsburg wins the 19623 Javelina Big Game Trophy for the largest javelina killed in New Mexico. He will appear on the TV program New Mexico Outdoors in Albuquerque September 16 at KNME 6 30 p m broadcast by KOB Albuquerque and KROD El Paso. He is to display the mounted javelina head at the 1964 New Mexico State Fair and Hidalgo County Fair.

Another Driver Dozes Killing a Fourteen Month Old

A baby of one year died and three adults were injured when a driver fell asleep and overturned near Lordsburg on Interstate 10. Ronnie Joe Simpson a Louisiana man died. James Simpson 28 of Los Angeles and two women from Los Angeles were injured. The car carried 11 passengers including seven children. The crash occurred as the group traveled from Louisiana to Los Angeles. Simpson was cited for failure to use due caution. Highway deaths in the state for the year reached 229.

Luncheon to Honor Sen Mechem at El Charro

An Appreciation Luncheon is planned at El Charro at 12 noon on Saturday September 12 honoring United States Senator Edwin L Mechem for his years as governor and senator. Hidalgo County Volunteers for Mechem committee states it will be a Dutch Treat event with no politics involved. All who wish to meet the senator are welcome regardless of party.
