All Systems Go For County Fair

The Annual Hidalgo County Fair opens Thursday at 10:00 a.m. for entries and ends with the Junior Rodeo at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Admission is 1.00 for adults, 0.50 for ages 6 to 12, and free for under 6. Tickets are valid all day. The Hidalgo County All-Breed Horse Show runs Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

County Fair Schedule Promises Livestock Judging and Rodeo

The notice outlines a three day fair program from Thursday September 9 through Saturday September 11. Army Choppers Make Unscheduled Landing at Lordsburg Airport

Late Tuesday morning four Army helicopters diverted from Fort Hood to Fort Irwin and landed at Lordsburg Airport after a hydraulic line leak was detected. They requested emergency handling and were met by City Fire Department and Hidalgo EMS. The aircraft remained grounded pending replacement parts.

72 Class Reunion Brought Alumni From Across West

Members of the class of 1972 gathered from California Texas Arizona and Nevada for a two day reunion. Activities included a football game at Lordsburg, a cocktail party at La Fiesta, and a banquet and dance. Debbie Welsh won travel distance honors traveling from Los Angeles.

Local Crimestoppers will meet on Wednesday September 15 at 7 p.m. at the Chamber of Commerce Office. Bob Allred president says the public is invited to attend.

A Girl Scout Open House will be held at Central Elementary School on Thursday starting at 7 p.m. Parents of girls from Brownies to Senior Scout level are invited to attend and consider enrolling. Adults are needed as leaders, assistants, and committee members.

Commission Questions Permits Commission Questions Permits

Hidalgo County Commission heard renewed disputes over forest service permits for cutting wood and Christmas trees. Commissioner Jack Morgan blamed travel to Silver City and called for permits issued in Lordsburg, while Forest Service officials cited bonding rules and cost controls. The board noted northern Gila Forest wood is plentiful but southern areas are stretched. City Corner notes public drinking issue on Motel Drive

City officials report growing concern over drinking in public on Motel Drive and near railroad tracks. Since March 1982 only one citation has reached Municipal Court. Officials urge enforcement, possible liquor license actions, and continued public input via the City Corner.
